Company description
College of the Atlantic’s (COA) Beech Hill Farm produces certified organic vegetables for COA and the local community, while using methods that maintain the integrity and health of the land, and work toward environmental and economic sustainability. We have six acres in production and six greenhouses. In addition to providing locally and sustainably raised produce and meat to COA, Beech Hill Farm operates a busy seasonal farm store, offers a CSA program, sells to local markets and restaurants and distributes food through our student run food access program. We are located on Mount Desert Island, home to beautiful Acadia National Park.
Beech Hill Farm provides educational opportunities to COA students and community members through our work-study program, summer work program, independent projects, class visits, events, and workshops.
The Beech Hill Farm farmstand is a vibrant and bustling on-farm store open June - November. We sell local meat, dairy and preserves in addition to our own produce and baked goods. Working in the farm-stand involves sales, customer service, display creation, restocking, organizing, managing inventory, packing up vegetables, cleaning and restocking and other tasks related to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming retail environment.

Qualifications:
Excellent customer service.
Willingness to work collaboratively and productively with a diverse group of people.
Ability to work efficiently and enthusiastically in a fast paced environment.
Be willing and able to work in all weather conditions, and stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Commitment to working the full season.
Experience with retail and/or agriculture is a plus.
This position requires the use of a personal smartphone to perform essential duties, including texting, phone calls and accessing G-Chat, our farm communication platform.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide excellent customer service.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, aesthetic appearance and food safety protocols.
Daily set up of the farmstand.
Restock and manage the display of our freezer, refrigerators and dry goods shelves.
Operate the cash register and scale.
Handle customer questions, complaints and issues in a timely and appropriate manner.
Arrive on time and give ample notice of requests for time off.
Maintain constructive communication with all members of the field crew and farmstand staff.
Compensation:
$17/hr. All crew receive free farm produce and 40% off in our farm store.
Housing:
Housing is available for rent in a shared COA apartment in Northeast Harbor.
Vacation and time off:
Summer season farmstand staff are permitted 5 days unpaid time off. Requests for time off must be made in advance, and may not overlap with other farmstand staff.
Schedule:
June 8th - August 28th, Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 5:00pm or 7am - 4pm.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
