Esoterra Culinary Garden is a bio-intensive no-till market garden growing specialty produce year-round for restaurants in the Boulder/Denver area. Our chef collaborations allow us to develop production models for vegetables, herbs and flowers not often found in the wider market, as well as churning out amazing greens and roots and fruits throughout the year. We build our soil with the extensive use of worm castings, healthy compost, mineral amendments, and fertigation with biological cocktails, as well as keeping living roots in the ground throughout the year, and no bare ground. Our 3.5 acres of permanent garden beds- 1/4 acre under field tunnels- and continually expanding perennial plantings are nestled into 100 beautiful acres of farmland bordering the Boulder creek wildlife corridor, where we work with our partners to cut hay and graze livestock. The farm is a frequent destination for the culinary community in the area to broaden their knowledge of what's possible in designing a local and seasonal menu for their customers. The array of flavors, colors, and textures that can be cultivated and gathered on a small piece of land fosters wonder and connection to nature and the land which provides our nourishment.

Job description

The Harvest Manager will provide leadership and overall responsibility for all aspects relating to harvest as well as post harvest management including washing, processing, and pack out. The harvest manager will work closely with the Farm Director as well as the Production Manager.

In addition, this position will be required to oversee and work closely with seasonal crew members, volunteers, and farm staff. You must like people and be devoted to practicing good communication skills, as well as enjoy solitary time working with the plants.

This is a full time salaried position from April-Nov, with potential for year-round employment. The salary will be prorated for the season to meet CO state salary requirements.

Benefits include 1 week PTO and end of year bonus.

Reports directly to farm director.

Target Start Date: April 1 - 15

Primary Duties:
 Coordinate with team to create weekly harvest availability list
 Prioritize harvest schedule to ensure an accurate, timely harvest and preserve optimal product quality
 Perform harvesting duties in a timely manner; including but not limited to field harvest, washing, processing, bagging and organizing deliveries for restaurants
 Maintain awareness of crop quality in fields to ensure timely harvest
 Monitor and optimize greens harvest yields in order to maximize salad harvest yields throughout the duration of season (we take great pride in our salad mix!)
 Ensure vegetables meet quality standards during harvesting and processing to regularly maintain (and exceed) chefs expectations
 Work with and alongside production manager and crew completing field management tasks as needed. Tasks including but not limited to; seeding, transplanting, irrigation, bed prep,
and weed management.
 Maintain cleanliness and organization of wash station, including ordering of new materials.

Ensure completion of all necessary records for PSR compliance

 Deliveries to restaurants as needed
 Occasional weekend farm maintenance duties

Desired Skills and Experience:

 2-3 growing seasons working on a small-scale farm, bio-intensive farm, preferably in a leadership role.
 Working knowledge of different plant families and crop varieties
 Ability to positively and effectively communicate with staff, volunteers, and customers
 Enthusiasm for growing delicious food and sharing with the surrounding community
 Ability to multi-task and stay organized while prioritizing and delegating harvesting tasks
 Maintain a positive attitude in sometimes stressful and routine tasks
 Ability to lift heavy objects and work in diverse weather conditions
 Understanding that farming requires a flexible attitude and ability to adapt to situational conditions
 Experience with a variety of farm tasks, including specialization/desire to focus on harvesting tasks

Compensation

this position is: salaried, $56,485 - $75,000
