Job description
Are you, (or you and a friend,) farm curious? Interested in combining your workout and workday? Into endurance challenges and tired of screens? We’d love to talk to you about a position on our field crew for the 2026 season.
Piecemeal Farm is a specialty cut flower operation serving over fifty wholesale, design, and mom & pop florists from Boston to New York. We cultivate a little over ten acres in the spectacular Tri Corner, an agricultural Eden nestled on the western slope of the Taconic range, and the last stop on the Harlem Line commuter rail from Grand Central in NYC. We have a practical, bootstrap attitude and are always pushing ourselves to exceed customer expectations and expand the audience for local flowers. We’re founding members of the Astoria Farmers Market in Queens.
The work can be physically challenging, as it involves everything from planting to weeding to harvesting in all types of weather. Our schedule shifts to reflect conditions and team needs, and to account for the seasonal changes inherent in farming. Occasionally we’ll work late, start early, take a half day, or ask for weekend help when things get wooly; that said, we pride ourselves on clear expectation setting around scheduling, and keep things pro and organized:
Planting season (May - early June) Monday - Friday 6:30am-3:30 pm
Harvest season (late June - mid October) Sunday - Thursday 6:30am-3:30pm
Shoulder season (mid-October to end of November) Monday - Friday 8am- 4pm
There is something magical about spending your days tending to living things, and having them dictate your movements. With curiosity and an open mind there are infinite learning opportunities here, and it’s a lifestyle worth experiencing!
Requirements
- Collaboration; great listening and communication skills
- Physical endurance; must be able and willing to consistently lift 50lbs while working outside in every weather daily
- Conscientiousness; provide consistent quality work and bring attention to problems the first time you notice them (bonus points if you spot friction points and work through solution ideas too!)
- Farm, landscape, or hospitality experience preferred, but happy to train a great candidate
Compensation $19/hr with farm housing available.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15.50 - 20/hr
