We are a 60 acre, MOFGA Certified Organic vegetable farm that grows about 25 acres of vegetables for our CSA and wholesale customers. We are in our 12th year of production and are growing each year to meet the demand for local, organic produce.
As a mixed vegetable operation, all staff on the farm get to be part of seasonal produce production in the short-season climate that is Mid-Coast Maine. The work is variable, challenging, and rewarding. We work in all weather; we work as a team to meet the tight deadlines of harvest and delivery. Job description
Field Operations are the foundation of the Farm. These are the wide ranging tasks and responsibilities that take place at the field level; preparing fields to be planted, planting or managing crops to maximize plant health and yield, preparing crops or fields for harvest operations, and executing harvest operations. The tools we use to accomplish this include several tractors with different implements, hand tools, and small engine machinery.
Seeding and Planting Field Manager
Oversee and execute vegetable seeding with tractor mounted Jang and Sutton Jr. Seeders and Jang push seeder
- Coordinating with Field Production Manager to ensure beds and ready for seeding, assisting with preparation when needed (stale bedding, amending, etc)
- Making sure equipment is available and functional to complete seeding, assist with basic equipment maintenance
- Keep accurate records for seeding to maintain compliance with organic certification and food safety certification
- Track seeding rates and germination of seeded beds, adjust practices as needed
- Track seed inventory and communicate shortages ASAP, order when appropriate
Oversee and execute transplanting (Water Wheel, Hand Transplants, and Paper Pot)
- Coordinate with Greenhouse Manager and Field Production Manager to ensure seedlings and beds are ready for transplanting operations and that equipment is in place to execute.
- Attend weekly/bi-weekly field walk sessions to coordinate with owners/field manager, harvest team (Thursdays 3:30-5:00
- Coordinate with Harvest Team and Ownership to ensure crew is available for transplanting
- Lead/delegate field team through transplanting, assuring quality transplanting and crop care
Support crop and field management with Field Production Manager
- Spraying
- Weed Management
- Supporting manual work with tractor (i.e moving sand bags)
- Harvest support (tractor operation)
- Field clean-up
- Bed preparation
- Other potential tasks:
Equipment Maintenance/Repairs
Infrastructure Projects
Morning Packouts
Subbing in to Wash/Pack, Field Crew, or Harvest Team as needed
Job Requirements:
- Employees must be on time, responsible and reliable.
- Consistent attention to detail and a high standard of work.
- Commitment to safety.
- Must be capable of heavy physical work in all weather conditions, cold/heat/rain etc. Field work requires the ability to stand for hours on end, walk many steps a day, move up to 50 pounds, and work in warm or hot or cold conditions.
- 2-3 years required experience on farms ideally. Experience with commercial vegetable production.
- Knowledge and understanding of farm scale production activities
- Experience with tractors required, cultivating tractors preferred
- Experience with Jang seeders preferred
- Experience with PTO and rear hitch implements preferred.
- Familiarity with growing and seeding different types of vegetable
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently while working alone. Demonstrated ability to self-start and manage/triage a schedule and priorities.
- Employees are expected to be team players, comfortable taking direction and following direction from both Beth and Eric and each other, and comfortable taking constructive criticism that improves the job being done. Employees are expected to be respectful and kind to one another.

Pay: Starting pay $20.00/hr. More with specific demonstrated farm experience, greenhouse management experience, and tractor operator experience.
