Job description
OVERVIEW
The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator helps Oasis Farm build relationships and trust with volunteers, neighbors, Bible Center Church members, and community partners through community-based engagement in Homewood and the greater Pittsburgh area. We are seeking a personable, experienced team member to grow our volunteer base by engaging with people at the farm, in community spaces, and throughout Homewood. This in-person role works alongside the farm crew and volunteers, coordinates farm events and programs, and represents Oasis Farm in the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working closely with the Oasis Farm and Oasis Project team, you will…
Program Coordination & Outdoor Work (40%)
•Help plan, coordinate, and facilitate farm events, volunteer workdays, and educational programs (like, farm tours, workshops, Workshare, Field2Fork, The Maker’s Clubhouse, TMC Early Learning Center)
•Coordinate volunteer schedules, orientations, communications, and participation tracking
•Work alongside farm crew and volunteers on farm and maintenance tasks during programs and busy periods
Neighborhood Outreach & Community Engagement (35%)
•Connect with and recruit neighbors, volunteers, and program participants throughout Homewood
•Recruit participants and promote farm programs at community events, farmers markets, and neighborhood gatherings
•Create and distribute communications materials (photos, flyers, social media, promotional materials)
Partner Relationships (15%)
•Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, schools, faith-based ministries, and institutional partners
•Present about the farm and invite collaboration at partner meetings, events, and conferences
Additional Responsibilities (10%)
•Participate in meetings and trainings
•Complete tasks and paperwork within deadlines
•Contribute as active member of Bible Center Church team
•Other duties based on experience and interest
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience & Skills (Required)
•1-3 years community-based outreach and engagement (direct service work, event tabling, door-to-door, etc.)
•Personal vehicle
•Flexible schedule including weekend and evening availability
•Strong problem-solving skills and professional maturity
•Proactive communication and organizational skills
•Comfort working with diverse groups and building trust across difference
•Background clearances (Federal, State, Child Abuse)
Physical Demands: Walking, standing, bending, lifting/moving heavy items (50+ lbs), outdoor work in all weather conditions throughout the season.
Strongly Preferred
•Experience with manual outdoor labor - farm work, landscaping, or similar physically demanding work
•Connection to or knowledge of Homewood community
•Experience building trust in communities with existing leadership and networks
•Background in food systems, urban agriculture, or community-based food work
•Digital communications and print skills (social media, newsletters, graphic design, photography)
