Job description
The Farming & Operations Manager (FOM) will lead the daily operations of the Hope Community Farm and Community Center and support Hope Community’s mission of nurturing unity and relationships through food, healing, and education. This position is based at the Anna T. Jeanes School property at the corner of South Section Street and Twin Beech Road in Fairhope, Alabama. The FOM oversees all aspects of farm production and site management, including crop planning, growing, harvesting, composting, facilities upkeep, and stewardship of equipment and supplies to ensure the farm is productive, welcoming, and well-maintained.
In addition to farm operations, the FOM plays a key role in engaging and leading volunteers, building community partnerships, and supporting educational programming and public events. The role includes developing programs such as our farm stand, harvest share, classes, and future apprenticeship opportunities, while also maintaining accurate records, assisting with budgeting, supporting grant reporting, and representing Hope Community in the broader community. This hands-on position is ideal for an experienced grower who is passionate about sustainable agriculture, enjoys working with people, and values making a lasting impact. As our farm and programs continue to grow, employee responsibilities will expand as well as opportunities to help shape the future of the organization and deepen its community reach.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily farm operations: crop production, soil management, harvesting, distribution, composting, and orchard/perennial care
Oversee property maintenance across two farm sites
Recruit, organize, and lead volunteers
Maintain farm records, budgets, and equipment upkeep
Support community events, workshops, and partner engagement.
Assist with grants, program tracking, and data reporting
Lead farm stand, harvest share, support apprentice program development, lead farm tours, and contribute to agricultural skills training
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
