Job description
Meadowlark Market , a project of Slow Food Wind River, was established in 2024 to connect food producers with food consumers in the Wind River region. As a public-facing, brick-and mortar market on Lander’s Main Street, Meadowlark Market allows producers and food entrepreneurs to connect and share their products with a larger and more diverse public than previously possible.
About the Position
We’re looking for a Market Manager to help the Meadowlark Market operation run smoothly, work with producers to sell their goods in the shop, engage and educate customers on the joy
and value of local food, and keep our shop in tip-top shape. You will work in alignment with guidelines set by the SFWR Board of Directors to grow the market. You will staff the market
during business hours and be responsible for the duties of running the day-to-day activities as well as promotional activities geared toward increasing sales and market offerings.
Qualifications
- Experience in retail management, preferably within the food service or grocery industries.
● Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
● A passion for local food and working with the people who grow, cook, appreciate, and eat local food!
● A confident leader who takes initiative and is a creative problem solver.
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Knowledge of and dedication to Wyoming food laws, health and safety information and
compliance standards.
● Experience working on both Macs and PCs and a willingness to learn new systems and technology.
● Ability to work flexible hours, including either Saturdays or Sundays, as required to maintain market open hours.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational leadership: Manage day-to-day operations of Meadowlark Market including producer coordination and inventory management. Monitor sales activity and
trends to ensure Meadowlark’s financial sustainability. Provide sales reports as requested by the SFWR board. Coordinate with the Meadowlark Kitchen Manager to plan and support community events and minimize food waste in the Market.
2. Customer engagement: Foster an inclusive, welcoming, accessible and pleasant environment for customers, ensuring exceptional service standards and addressing any
customer concerns promptly.
3. Team management: Lead, motivate and manage a team of market staff including hiring, scheduling, training and performance management.
4. Producer relations: Cultivate positive relationships with producers and address any producer concerns promptly. Lead producer recruitment and be the central authority on
maintaining Meadowlark product standards, while ensuring diverse and appealing local food offerings that support SFWR’s mission and values.
5. Marketing and Promotion: Manage Meadowlark Market’s email account. Work with SFWR board and marketing liaison to promote Market operations and drive foot traffic and sales.
6. Quality control: Streamline, organize, and expand upon existing market procedures, policies, and standards. Maintain a clean, organized and appealing aesthetic environment within the Meadowlark facilities.
7. Other related tasks assigned by the SFWR Board, within a clearly defined supervisory framework.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
