Company description
River Ridge Farm & Market is a diversified, four-season organic farm based in central Connecticut, entering its 7th year of production. We grow fruits, vegetables, and cut flowers across three farm locations, with approximately one acre under greenhouse cultivation and about 35 acres in active production. As a low-till organic operation, we are deeply committed to soil health, environmental stewardship, and building resilient farming systems.
We are a production-driven farm business with many interconnected parts—field and greenhouse growing, harvest, wash/pack, farmers markets, value-added food production, two year-round farm stores, an ice cream shop, and a bakery—all working together to bring food directly from our fields to our community. We sell primarily direct-to-consumer, keeping us closely connected to both our land and our customers.
Our team is close-knit, hardworking, and motivated. We move fast, solve problems in real time, and rely on clear communication and teamwork to keep a complex operation running smoothly. The work is physical, full, and sometimes chaotic—especially during peak season—but it’s also collaborative, rewarding, and fun. We laugh, we learn, and we take pride in doing meaningful work together. If you enjoy working hard, staying grounded under pressure, and finishing the day tired but proud, River Ridge Farm might be the place for you.
Job description
Seasonal Field Crew members are on the front lines of production. This role is physical, repetitive, and outdoors in all weather. Daily work includes planting, maintaining crops, harvesting, washing and packing produce, and keeping workflows clean and efficient. Peak season is busy and demanding, and staying focused, reliable, and productive matters.
We’re looking for people who want to work hard, learn quickly, and take responsibility for the quality and pace of their work. Strong crew members are invited back season after season, and returning staff often take on greater responsibility, leadership in daily tasks, and higher pay. There is real opportunity to grow with the farm for those who show consistency, initiative, and teamwork.
Core Responsibilities
Field and greenhouse crop production (planting, maintenance, harvest)
Washing, packing, and preparing produce for sale and distribution
Maintaining organized, clean workspaces and tools
Supporting team workflow during high-volume production periods
If you want hands-on experience on a serious organic farm, aren’t afraid of physical work, and are interested in growing with a professional operation, River Ridge Farm offers a challenging and rewarding seasonal role.
Expectations:
All In!
We’re looking for individuals willing to commit to this work. We show up on time, with curiosity and dedication. We farm in comfort and discomfort (short of illness).
Production Mindset:
Efficiency is key. Staying aware of the team’s pace, thinking a few steps ahead, and anticipating the next task ensures we stay on track. We aim to move with purpose and set ourselves up for success at every step.
Stay Present:
Phones are primarily for taking photos and communicating with team members. Emergencies and necessary situations aside, work time is not for personal calls or messaging.
No Butts or Buts:
We don’t sit unless absolutely necessary. Crawling, kneeling, squatting, walking, skipping, and running—all good. Sitting for extended periods? Not our style.
Clear Communication:
Be as direct and clear as possible. We value a willingness to communicate, even when it’s hard.
Detail-Oriented:
Attention to detail is essential, whether it’s ensuring quality in harvesting, thoroughly finishing a project, or knowing when it’s time to walk away.
Investment in Learning:
We encourage curiosity. If you see something unfamiliar—mention it. Take time to learn and share your discoveries with the team.
Strong Teamwork:
We’re all leaders on this farm. Your voice and impact matter, and collaboration is key to our production methods.
Self-Initiation:
While we’re a small, close-knit team, self-direction is essential. Whether packing the harvest truck the night before or refilling supplies without being asked, finding a rhythm and taking initiative are crucial.
Community-Minded:
Respect for each individual on our farm team and the broader community is non-negotiable.
Positivity, Patience, Flexibility:
These traits help us roll with the ups and downs of farming life.
