Free Range Flowers is an 8-acre farm in Bellingham, WA (Nooksack). The farm specializes in cut flowers and foliage, particularly unique perennials and shrubs. Organic practices are part of a larger farm project of environmental and social sustainability including regular check-ins, healthy communication, conscientious use of physical labor, rainwater harvesting, cover cropping and more. Job description
This role is focused on work in both the field and pack shed. This position primarily entails working alone and with other crew members to efficiently grow and pack high quality cut flowers and foliage for wholesale markets. A typical week may include planting, weeding/cultivating, trellissing, harvesting, and packing orders. This position is particularly focused on harvest and pack of a wide range of flowers. This role requires good communication, fine motor skills, and a willingness to learn.
40-45 hours per week
Sun-Thurs, Mon-Fri, Tues-Sat
April through October
Required qualifications:
● Desire and passion for farming!
● Organized and detail-oriented
● Punctual/reliable
● Considerate and maintains positive attitude
● Willingness to take initiative and ask questions. Participates in group decision-making, can receive feedback smoothly, can identify problems and solutions, vocalize when something isn’t clear
● Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs for a minute and work in variable weather
● Adaptability to changing conditions: weather, tasks, etc.
● Actively seeks new ways to improve quality and productivity
● Uses available resources efficiently (e.g., time, materials, equipment)
● Ability to do repetitive tasks
● Ability to navigate even and uneven ground
Desired qualifications:
● Farm experience preferred
Tasks:
● Basic tractor use
● Transplanting by hand and with a transplanting machine
● Assisting with drip tape layout and cleanup
● Bed preparation and cultivation: raking, hoeing, etc.
● Hand-weeding
● Trellising
● Mixing soil
● Mulching
● Washing and filling buckets and trays
● Pushing wagons and carts to and from field
● Safely operating cutting tools for harvest of a wide variety of annuals, perennials and shrubs
● Safely working with and around farm equipment
● Quickly assessing quality of flower bunches
● Filling and packing orders based on weekly lists

Opportunity for advancement and longer-term employment.
● 8-9 hour work day with one 30 minute paid lunch break and one 30 minute paid afternoon break.
● Annual bonus based on farm revenue and hours worked.
● PTO/sick time accrued 1 hour/40 hours worked. Overtime (over 40 hours) paid at 1.5x hourly
rate.
