Company description
We are two farms located near each other in rural New Hampshire near Newfound Lake and the White Mountains.
Bear Mountain Farm is a fourteen acre, mountainside, homestead farm. In past years, we were certified organic for vegetables, which were sold at farmers markets, to restaurants, health food stores, and through a CSA along with bread, eggs, and goat milk yogurt. Now, in retirement, the farm is focused on supporting the Bear Mountain Garden Club, a group of twelve households, all good friends and neighbors, who work together to grow enough vegetables and fruit for all of us. We share the work, the expenses, and the produce with an emphasis on food security and resilience. This season we plan on building a wood-frame greenhouse, an irrigation pond and a wood-fired, outdoor, cob oven.
Fred's Farm is a certified organic, fourteen acre, bottom-land farm with river frontage. Previously focused on annual market vegetables, Fred is currently working to establish a u-pick berry operation featuring perennial raspberries, blackberries, elderberries and honeyberries with a strong emphasis on building soil and infrastructure. The farm has three high tunnels (so far), extensive farm equipment, and is planning to build an equipment shed this season.
The two farms have many overlapping projects as well as lots of side projects among folks in the group. This includes a small, commercial nursery propagating plants for permaculture and a sawmill that provides much of the lumber we need for various builds. The skill sets in the group are many and varied. We have a rich, mutual help and sharing ethic among us. There are monthly pot-luck suppers, frequent poker nights, home-made pizza gatherings and on-going Dungeons and Dragons.
