Company description
Marina Beach — opening this spring in San Francisco’s Marina District — was founded to fill a gap in the Bay Area dining scene — a place for South Asian food that’s both thoughtful and approachable. The concept bridges the space between fine dining and fast casual, pairing vibrant, heritage-driven dishes with natural wines in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
The restaurant’s roots trace back to years spent in kitchens across the country and to inspiration drawn from Parisian chef residencies — where collaboration, creativity, and community are at the core.
Named after Marina Beach in India, the restaurant pays homage to the founder’s family roots. Today, it stands as a small, open-kitchen wine bar by the bay, celebrating craftsmanship, culture, and shared experiences.
Job description
Why Work With Us
We’re not here to do business as usual. If you believe hospitality is an art form — part precision, part soul, part storytelling — this might just be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. At Marina Beach, we’re reimagining what food and wine can represent — creating a place where culture, community, and connection meet.
Our space is alive with bold new flavors and fresh hospitality energy. We’re grounded by our biodynamic farm, which connects our food and our team to the rhythm of the earth. And we break through wine-world barriers — celebrating low-intervention bottles, small producers, and the joy of discovery over pretension.
Position Overview
As an Apprentice, you’ll be at the heart of our five-person team — learning directly from the Culinary Experience Manager (BOH) and Wine & Hospitality Manager (FOH) while supporting the day-to-day rhythm of the restaurant.
This role is designed for someone who thrives in dynamic environments and wants to grow into a leadership path within food and hospitality. You’ll flex between front and back of house, gaining hands-on experience in both culinary and service operations.
You’ll learn how a restaurant truly runs — from menu development and prep to wine service and guest connection — while helping us shape a culture of creativity, care, and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Support both the kitchen and front-of-house teams as needed during service
Assist with prep, plating, and dish execution under the guidance of the Culinary Experience Manager
Assist in service flow, table touchpoints, and wine presentation with the Wine & Hospitality Manager
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and flow throughout the space
Participate in team meetings & offsites, leadership trainings, and 1:1 professional development with a Berkeley Certified Coach
Contribute to inventory management, restocking, and closing procedures
Uphold Marina Beach’s standards for hospitality, sustainability, and communication
Bring ideas to the table — literally — to help us innovate and improve as we grow
Who You Are
Passionate about food, wine, and genuine hospitality
Hungry to learn and grow — not just in skill, but in awareness and leadership
Flexible, proactive, and excited to wear many hats
Comfortable working in both kitchen and service settings
Calm and grounded in a fast-paced environment
Interested in sustainability, creativity, and community
Bonus: Aspiring to one day open or manage your own restaurant
Why You’ll Love It Here
Deep mentorship from two seasoned leaders (FOH + BOH)
Cross-training in both culinary and service disciplines
Monthly leadership training to expand your professional and personal growth
Monthly 1:1 coaching session with a Berkeley Certified Coach
Monthly team outings and field trips to our biodynamic farm
Monthly wellness stipend
Paid sick time and generous paid time off
Staff discount on wines
Holidays off to rest and recharge
