Sunshine Farm is a 100 acre family farm located in Sherborn, MA twenty miles west of Boston. We retail flowers, fruits and vegetables through our farm stand, CSA and farmers markets. We crop 45 acres of mixed vegetables, small fruits and tree fruit. We also have a Ice Cream stand and small bakery on this third generation farm. We operate from April - November with produce and ice cream. Christmas trees and greens in December.
Job description
Production: Assist managing crew to produce flowers, fruits and vegetables. Includes spring bedding plants from our three greenhouses and three acres each of strawberries, blueberries, apples and peaches. Also 35 acres of mixed vegetables, sweet corn and greens.
- Safely operate our four John Deere tractors running mowers, tillers, harrow, cultivators, wagons, bed shapers and transplanters.
-Setup and maintain drip irrigation systems.
-Supervise a small crew of 4-5 workers during the summer and fall to plant, grow, harvest, wash and pack produce for sale for our farm stand, CSA and markets.
-General farm maintenance and cleanup.
Qualifications: one year minimum operating farm equipment.
-Mechanical or trade skills helpful.
- Safe operation and knowledge of farm machinery.
-Able to lift 50 lbs.
-Work well alone and with a team in all weather.
Schedule: Seasonal April -December. 40- 50 hrs./ week
-Hours Mon-Friday 7 to 4pm with a one hour unpaid lunch.
-Saturday 7 to 3pm for spring and fall tillage or loading truck for Saturday farmers market.
-Daily tasks are watering and moving plants early morning. Then driving tractor with crew of two to transplant plants to field early season. Afternoon tasks are tractor operations mowing, cultivating, tilling field crops.
-May also help trellis tomatoes, move irrigation pipe, mow and weedwack and drive haywagon to u-pick fields.
-Summer and fall- help harvest, wash and pack produce usually 7 to 10 am daily before field chores.
Salary: $20.00 hour depending on experience.
Other: No housing or health insurance.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $20.00 - $25.00
