Rivendale Farms is a highly diversified medium-scale farm located just outside Pittsburgh, PA. Our primary production aim is to supply our retail farm share program and the in-house Rivendale culinary team with a wide variety of fresh produce year-round. In addition, the farm also collaborates with other local growers and sells to several wholesale customers in the greater Pittsburgh area.
Job description
Rivendale is looking for two (2) Fruit Production Assistants to join our team. This position supports all day-to-day operations in our orchards and vineyards. We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, hard working, and interested in commercial production and management of mixed tree fruit orchards, as well as vineyards and berries.
- Reports to Fruit Production Lead & Crop Production Manager
- Works alongside other department staff to maintain consistent crop planning for seasonal production of all tree fruit, berries, and grapes
- Regular pest + disease scouting, identification, treatment and problem-solving
- Field work including planting, pruning, thinning, trellising, harvesting, weeding, mowing, etc.
- Post-harvest processing, packaging, inventory, delivery
- Irrigation installation and maintenance and fertility management and monitoring
- Regular cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of machinery, harvest tools, and other equipment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- 1-3 years relevant experience or education strongly preferred
Experience supervising / working independently strongly preferred
- Must be a team player with an energetic and positive attitude, good communication skills, and consistent work ethic, demonstrating attention to detail
- Able to stand for extended periods of time, lift 50lbs
- Comfortable working full days outdoors, in all weather, and often doing physically demanding farm labor, sometimes on a ladder as needed
- Have or be willing to acquire a private applicators license in Pennsylvania and be able or willing to learn to operate spray equipment as a pesticide/herbicide handler
- Ability to work flexible schedules in order to meet the needs of seasonal orchard management and production, including occasional weekends and nights when necessary
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $17.00 - $22.00
