Job description
Community Farmers Markets is seeking a Food Systems Innovation Manager (FSIM) to manage Free Produce Markets, Aggregate Markets, and Free Produce Distributions at Farmers Markets. These markets are a crucial tool for CFM to expand its reach and impact. The FSIM plays a key role in advancing fresh food access beyond our traditional outdoor farmers markets.
The position includes on-site market management responsibilities before, during, and after market hours. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Managing approximately five markets per month, scheduling and managing market staff and onsite partners, sourcing for each market, engaging community partners, and posting to social media. The FSIM is also responsible for market reporting and tracking, as well as maintaining and refining Standard Operating Procedures for each market model.
The FSIM position also has the option to include work across the organization’s programmatic areas. This optional work includes:
- Participating in outreach events throughout the community
- Contributing to special communications and marketing projects
- Performing additional administrative tasks outside of those related to the markets the position manages
- Assisting with event coordination and implementation, including fundraising events and corporate pop-up markets
- Supporting the Vendor Support Program (program creation, farm workdays, etc.)
- Filling in roles at our weekly outdoor markets (Assistant Manager, sub Manager, Compost Program, Cheffing, etc.)
Coordinating volunteers and volunteer programming
- Supporting special projects (Zero Waste programming, Farmer Friend programming, etc.)
Role Overview, Compensation & Schedule
The FSIM position is an hourly position at $25/hr. FSIM’s are eligible for healthcare insurance benefits with the understanding that they work at least 20 hrs a week. FSIM’s may work up to 40 hours per week. Hours will be tracked and reviewed weekly to ensure that work aligns with CFM’s mission.
The FSIM will primarily work remotely and at market, but should plan on utilizing the CFM office in Atlanta, GA when needed, including regular in-person meetings. They must be willing and able to work on a flexible schedule (evenings and weekends) in a fast-paced environment, and adhere to CFM’s communication policies. The FSIM must be able to commit to a full calendar year market season to be considered for the position.
This position will work closely with the Senior Manager of Operations and Lead Market Manager to accomplish their responsibilities, and may be required to sub for other Market Managers as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate, schedule, and supervise market staff for all market dates, from set-up to take-down, during the market season.
- Maintain and transport materials to/from the market site to/from CFM office using the CFM Ram Promaster van.
- Source all produce for markets. Arrange for pick-up and plans for extra produce.
- Communicate with and build relationships with vendors, customers and site partners, and resolve minor conflicts.
- Track and report on attendance, sales, and outreach vouchers, and complete corresponding reports on a weekly basis.
- Track and evaluate market activities through internal and external reports on a weekly basis.
- Track SNAP/EBT sales through internal and external reports on a weekly basis.
- Attend regularly scheduled weekly meetings with CFM staff (currently, Tuesdays 12-2pm.)
- Other tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Ability to drive a Ram Promaster van, including a current driver's license.
- Ability to attend a weekly team meeting at the CFM office
- 3+ years of professional experience
- Ability to work for up to seven hours outdoors, in all seasons and in extreme weather.
- Competency with G Suite, Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets.
- Ability to work under pressure and in unconventional scenarios.
- Ability to multi-task and quickly adapt on the job.
- Commitment to providing access to “good food” to all people regardless of socio-economic situation.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
Preferred Skills
- Experience in non-profits, community organizing, nutrition, public health, farming, the local food movement, and/or project management.
- Knowledge of food systems, sustainable agriculture, and food justice issues
- Develops strong, trusting, respectful relationships with others.
