Job description
FrontLine Farming is seeking a dependable, organized, and youth-centered Education Assistant to assist with and, at times, lead components of our Summer Black Teen Cultivators Program. This program serves Black teens through hands-on farming, food systems education, and leadership development. Cultivators Education Assistant is expected to actively supervise and manage teens, lead educational activities, uphold safety and behavioral expectations, and model professionalism and leadership in both farm and educational settings. The ideal candidate brings at least two (2) years of experience working directly with youth and has practical awareness of farming, agriculture, or outdoor education environments.
Youth Supervision & Field Management:
Actively supervise and manage teen participants during daily farm tasks and activities
Collaborate with Farm Manager on site to ensure youth are contributing to the goals of the site
Lead youth through hands-on farm work, ensuring:
Safe and appropriate use of farm tools and equipment
Efficient work habits and steady progress toward daily tasks
Youth remain engaged, focused, and on task
Set clear expectations and provide direct instruction during farm activities
Maintain constant awareness of participant location, behavior, and safety
Enforce behavioral and safety expectations in a firm, respectful, and youth-affirming manner
Educational Leadership & Program Support
Lead and co-lead educational blocks, activities, and lessons as assigned
Facilitate hands-on demonstrations, small group activities, and discussions
Prepare, organize, and manage learning materials and supplies for lessons
Reinforce learning objectives and redirect youth as needed to maintain a productive learning environment
Model leadership, accountability, and clear communication appropriate for a youth educational setting
Program & Farm Operations
Support daily program setup and breakdown (7:00 AM start time)
Prepare, organize, and maintain program supplies (water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray, farm tools)
Assist with planting, harvesting, maintenance, and other farm operations connected to youth programming
Support participant transportation to educational field trips using the FLF-provided passenger van. Safe and responsible vehicle operation are required for this position.
Assist with light meal preparation and food setup for daily lunches
Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized farm and learning environment
Data and Reporting:
Digital data entry and reporting on attendance, demographics and other surveys as required by grantor- all through FLF-provided apps.
Written reports on daily activities, conflict and intervention as well as final reports with photographs, summaries and quotes from participants - all provided to Education Manager.

Personal commitment to, and ability to educate others about, food justice, racial justice and FrontLine Farming’s mission.
Attend and assist with implementation of organizational events and activities as communicated in offer letter.
Required Qualifications:
At least two (2) years of experience working directly with youth, preferably in educational, outdoor, or community-based settings
Demonstrated ability to manage and supervise groups of teenagers in active, hands-on environments
Experience leading or co-leading educational activities, lessons, or workshops for youth
Foundational knowledge of farming, agriculture, food systems, or outdoor work environments
Ability to give clear directions, manage time and tasks, and follow through consistently
Strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and reliability when working with minors
Active driver’s license with no accidents or traffic violations within the past 3 years, pass a criminal background check with no mark downs for DUIs, criminal behavior around children or violence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in education, youth development, farming, environmental education, or food systems work
Experience with farm-based education or outdoor classroom settings
Comfort driving a large vehicle or willingness to be coached in driving
Food handling or meal preparation experience
Physical & Work Environment
Outdoor farm and learning spaces in varying weather conditions
Regular standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying up to 50 lbs
Early morning start times
Active, hands-on work requiring sustained engagement and leadership with youth
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
