Position Overview
We are seeking a Head Cook / Pastry Lead to manage daily kitchen operations with a focus on pastries and preserves production. This role is ideal for a skilled, hands-on cook who loves
working with fruit, dough, and seasonal ingredients, and who thrives in a small, collaborative environment.
You will fully own the end-to-end product lifecycle. This includes recipe development, executing and refining our core pastry offerings, producing jams and preserves (or helping scale
existing recipes), and maintaining high standards of quality, consistency, and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities
● Own recipe development and testing in collaboration with Jamagansett leadership
● Prepare daily pastry offerings (e.g. tarts, hand pies, cakes, breakfast pastries, or similar)
● Produce small-batch jams, preserves, and fruit-forward items
● Maintain consistency across all baked and cooked products
● Lead menu planning based on seasonality and ingredient availability
● Manage prep schedules to support retail hours and production needs
● Ensure kitchen cleanliness and compliance with food safety standards
● Monitor inventory and communicate ingredient needs
● Collaborate closely with leadership team on new ideas and seasonal launches
● Manage small team of up to 3 cooks
Qualifications
● Experience in a professional kitchen, bakery, or pastry setting
● Strong foundational pastry skills and comfort working with doughs and fruit
● Interest in jam-making, preserving, or small-batch food production (experience a plus,
not required)
● Organized, efficient, and detail-oriented
● Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of production
● Passion for high-quality ingredients and thoughtful food
Compensation
● Pay range: hourly rate of $25-35 (based on experience)
● Immediate start with potential to extend
● Schedule to be determined based on production needs
● Competitive hourly or salaried compensation, commensurate with experience
