Internship description
Position Overview
Land Stewards Farm is seeking a dependable and experienced Livestock Manager to oversee daily operations of the livestock program. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for animal care, grazing management, farm employee management and coordination of livestock-related farm activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage and care for 150 breeding ewes and 80 breeding does
Oversee daily care and health monitoring of livestock guardian dogs
Manage turkeys and mixed poultry flocks
Implement feeding programs, breeding schedules, lambing/kidding preparation, and seasonal livestock planning
Monitor herd and flock health and coordinate treatment or veterinary care when needed
Implement rotational grazing systems across hundreds of acres of pasture at different property locations
Maintain and manage fencing, water systems, and livestock infrastructure
Supervise and coordinate farm employees in assisting with daily livestock care
Maintain accurate livestock records including breeding, health treatments, and production
Work with supervisors to implement farm goals, grazing plans and farm management
Ensure strong standards of animal welfare and farm biosecurity
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of hands-on livestock experience (sheep, goats, or similar species preferred)
Preferred 1 year of management or supervisory experience
Strong animal observation and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Valid driver’s license needed to fulfill jobs duites
Preferred Skills
Experience managing lambing or kidding seasons
Familiarity with poultry production
Experience with rotational grazing systems
Ability to operate farm equipment (ATV, tractor, skid steer, small implements)
Experience with farm recordkeeping systems
Compensation & Benefits
$27–$32 per hour, depending on experience
Private on-farm house provided
