Job description
Are you looking for meaningful summer work and want to join our Farm Team to make our 2026 Farm and Farmstand season the best yet?
This is a 3 day a week position as a Farmstand Co-Manager with 2 days a week on our certified organic urban farm in South Burlington VT, centered in South Village.
Position Title: Farmstand Co-Manager
Hourly Rate: $20-$22/hour depending on skills and experience
Time frame: Mid-April through October
Farmstand Co-Manager/Farmer Position & Purpose:
- Plan and execute a dynamic season at the Common Roots Farmstand at South Village with our Farm Team, being mindful of each other’s SMART goals.
- Build a dynamic relationship with our farm team, customers, vendors and community to maximize our inventory, providing excellent customer service.
- Engage and appreciate our talented volunteers and interns.
- This position is expected to be performed as a seasonal employee.
- Specific responsibilities of this position include becoming a dynamic worker in our Farmstand and on our Farm with our talented leads
Farmstand Communication
Key - Friendly Customer Service, getting to know and serve our customers is key to success
- Upsell to customers by knowing and promoting our Common
Roots products as top focus (especially things that just came in or chef prepared foods that have a limited shelf life, then that of our vendors)
- Encourage customers to become Flex Card Patrons communicating their bonus dollars
- Build relationships with customers as time permits
- Educate the mission, values and programs of Common Roots
- Educate customers, including children regarding the nutrition of products
- Share culinary ideas and recipes
- Be mindful that we have evidence that customers steal – simply ask them to put it back
Farmstand Freshness, Display, Good Signage, Beauty and Community Engagement
Key - freshness of our farm produce, chef-made products, and vendor products require daily attention to rotation, safety and handling for customer satisfaction
- Display in fridges, freezers, on shelves and tables need to be tidy, clean and inviting
- Good signage/labels with pricing are required for every item
- Beauty and aesthetics need daily attention
- Plan Chef and Vendor opportunities with Liz Spitler, Marketing Director, to bring Farmstand Patrons together
Management
Key – keeping your eye on the whole scope of the Farmstand both interior and exterior,
Key - utilizing your volunteers and interns wisely to make your role manageable and enjoyable
