The Burlington Summer Farmers Market is seeking reliable and enthusiastic Market Staff Members to help create a welcoming and well-organized market experience for vendors, customers, and volunteers. This seasonal position runs from May 9th to October 31st, 2026, with markets held every Saturday.
Position Overview
Market Staff Members play a key role in setup, operations, customer service, and breakdown of the weekly market. This role requires dependability, flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to perform physical tasks in all weather conditions. Staff members report to the Market Manager and assist vendor support, customer inquiries, merchandise sales, and financial transactions.
Hours: Approximately 8 hours per week (Saturdays, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM or 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM).
Pay: $18.00/hour - Staff who work at least 22 of 26 scheduled market days and meet attendance expectations will receive an end-of-season bonus based on attendance ($200-$400).
Key Responsibilities
Market Operations & Logistics
- Assist with setup and breakdown of the market, including lifting and assembling equipment, and placing ropes for vendors.
- Ensure signage is properly placed before opening and removed after closing.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized market environment.
Customer & Vendor Support
- Provide friendly, professional customer service throughout the market.
- Address questions and feedback from vendors, customers, and volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with the Market Manager and other staff to ensure smooth market operations.
Sales & Financial Transactions
- Sell and manage inventory of market merchandise.
- Handle market transactions, including administering SNAP tokens, and Crop Cash.
- Operate EBT and Square payment systems.
- Track and report hours and sales to the Market Manager.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must be available most Saturdays from May 9 – October 31st, 2026 (6:00/7:00 AM – 3:00 PM).
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving equipment.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with diverse groups of people.
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
