Job description
Spend your summer in rural Vermont, in a vibrant multigengerational camp community. Live on or off site and work with our experienced chefs to prepare delicious vegetarian meals using local, organic ingredients - many grown within a half mile of camp! Camp Common Ground is a family camp that centers sustainability, art, music, and movement. Staff have the opportunity to participate in camp programming and are deeply integrated into the community.
Common Ground Center’s kitchen is the key to the whole operation - without our cooks this community doesn’t function! We have a variety of roles available, from Front of House to Assistant Chef. Pay varies based on role and experience, but generally falls between $17.50-$25/hr, plus housing and meals. Camp runs from July 25 - August 14.
Job Description
● Working with the Chef to follow the specific menu of the day;
● Upholding the safety and cleanliness standards of the CGC kitchen throughout the program;
● Taking direction from the Chef to ensure that the dietary needs of all campers and camp staff are being met (Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Vegan, etc.);
● Arriving on time for the entire scheduled shift.
Requirements & Skills
● Relevant food service experience in residential, restaurant or school setting is a plus, but not required for all roles;
● Flexibility in planning and creative problem solving;
● Good communication skills and patient management style;
● Experience with cooking for large groups;
● Comfort with same sex families, LGBTQ campers, and people from all religious, ethnic and economic backgrounds.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $17.50 - $25.00
