About the Northeast Farmers Fund
The Northeast Farmers Fund, a project of Wolfe's Neck Center for Agriculture & the Environment, provides farmers with funding, technical assistance, and soil analysis services to support the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices and expanded market opportunities. Technical Assistance Providers (TAPs) play a critical role in helping farmers successfully navigate this program, from enrollment through project completion.
Scope of Work
Technical Assistance Providers (TAPs) are the primary point of contact for farmers participating in the Northeast Farmers Fund. TAPs support farmers through enrollment, contracting, implementation, documentation, and reporting, while helping them plan effective use of program funds for conservation practice implementation and/or projects that expand their market access opportunities.
This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys working directly with farmers, is highly organized, and has experience balancing relationship-based work with administrative and documentation requirements.
This is a contractor role with variable hours.
Key Responsibilities
Farmer Enrollment and Support
- Serve as the main point of contact for farms throughout the program
- Guide farmers through application, program enrollment, and contracting
- Help farmers identify eligible and impactful uses of program funds
Farm Project Coordination
- Oversee the farmer contracting process from start to finish
- Provide high-level guidance to help farmers navigate the planning and implementation of funded activities (practice implementation and/or market access projects)
- Make referrals to specialized experts when needed
Monitor farmer progress and help troubleshoot challenges as they arise
Documentation and Reporting
- Collect required information and materials from farmers for program enrollment, final reporting, and verification of project completion (including maps, quotes, photos, and receipts)
- Enter and manage data in program systems
Help farmers understand program expectations, timelines, and reporting requirements
Soil Sampling
- Perform or coordinate soil sampling on farms as necessary, following protocol developed for the Northeast Farmers Fund program
- Participate in required soil sampling training
Assist with data collection and submission as needed
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience working directly with farmers or agricultural organizations
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills
- Strong database and/or spreadsheet management experience
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Clear and professional communication skills
Willingness and ability to travel regionally within the Northeast
- Ability to work independently and remotely
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with regenerative, organic, or conservation agriculture
- Experience with farmer grant or incentive programs
Knowledge of agricultural market development, certifications, or supply chains
- Strong motivation to work in regenerative agriculture, including but not limited to holding related certifications or licenses
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods, frequent typing, and regular computer use
- Visits to farms will require bending, light lifting, digging, and walking on uneven terrain, as well as driving for extended periods of time
Compensation & Time Commitment
- This is a contractor position with variable hours that does not include benefits
- Technical Assistance Provider will be required to carry their own worker's compensation insurance for the duration of the contact period or otherwise submit an Independent Contractor Statement
- Technical Assistance Provider will be required to provide their own computer
- Compensation based on an hourly rate of $80-$100/hour, with time expectations varying by farm
- Anticipated time commitment: 5-10 hours required/farm, with a minimum of 40 farms in Technical Assistance Provider's 2026 portfolio. Maximum number of farms will be determined by Technical Assistance Provider's time capacity as well as the program's farmer enrollment limits
- Expected contract term: 2 years with possibility for continuation
- The majority of this role will be performed remotely, with moderate travel required to farms within the Northeast (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY)
- When travel is required, reasonable travel expenses will be compensated
- Paid training provided (approximately 10 hours)
