Company description
North Haven Inn & Market is the only year-round market on North Haven Island — a small, close-knit community twelve miles out in Penobscot Bay. Our kitchen is built around one simple idea: fresh, handmade, nourishing food for everyone who walks through the door.
Job description
The Role
This is a full-time cook position, five days a week including weekends. You'll work alongside our Kitchen Manager and a small team in a kitchen that runs on good communication, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to quality.
A typical day looks like:
Early morning: baking biscuits, building hot breakfast sandwiches, preparing pastries, baking focaccia
Midday: assembling grab-and-go sandwiches, soups, and salads
Afternoon: prepping for the next day, organizing, cleaning
When the kitchen is fully staffed: picking up shifts in the market — stocking, customer service, general operations
Occasionally: helping with events like our weekly summer dinners and community happenings
You'll also help manage our sourdough, keep grab-and-go provisions stocked, and assist with freight receiving.
Who We're Looking For
Previous kitchen experience is a plus, but we care more about attitude than credentials. We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys feeding people, works well with others, and shows up with good energy and a willingness to learn.
A strong candidate will:
- Have some background in food service, agriculture, or a similar hands-on environment
- Be comfortable on their feet for a full shift and able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Balance independence with collaboration — our schedule includes both
- Stay organized and calm when things get busy or change unexpectedly
- Communicate clearly and directly with teammates and customers
- Take quality seriously without taking themselves too seriously
- Work with respect, integrity, and humility
