Grow Amsterdam NY was formed in 2016 for the beautification and betterment of Amsterdam NY and the surrounding community. The mission is to conserve, create and empower community managed greenspace through outreach programs and community education.
It started with building a community garden to model what can be done with vacant lots. Grow Amsterdam NY has 2 community gardens and hosts a CSA. Compost Works our community food-scrap drop-off program has processed over 16 tons of organics since 2019 and teaches composting to homeowners. The Pumpkin Smash is our signature event. Environmental education, community outreach and collection events inform and engage our community.

Job description
The Farmers Market Manager is a part time, seasonal position overseeing all operational, administrative, and community facing aspects of the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market. Serve as the primary authority on market days, represents the Leadership Team, supports vendors, administers food access programs, and ensures a welcoming, safe, and well organized market environment. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, independent decision making, conflict resolution capabilities, physical stamina, and experience with market or event administration. Essential Duties include:
Leadership, Governance & Market Oversight: Primary on site leadership for the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market, overseeing market day operations, coordinating staff, volunteers, and community representation. The Market Manager supports organizational governance through budgeting, operational evaluation, and strategic planning. Maintain strong relationships with partners, agencies, and local officials.
Market Operations: Ensure the market runs safely, efficiently, and professionally each week. Duties cover site setup and breakdown, safety and cleanliness, customer service, dispute resolution, and administration of food access programs. The role maintains operational continuity, manages on site issues, and exercises emergency authority to protect the market and its participants.
Market & Vendor Management: Work with vendors to help them succeed at the farmers market. Create an organized, high quality public market environment. Oversee vendor setup and booth assignments, maintain product standards, enforce market rules, and manage required documentation and inspections to support a balanced and reliable market experience.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
