Job description
Community Farmers Markets is seeking a Market Manager (MM) to manage the Oakhurst Farmers Market. The position includes on-site market management responsibilities before, during, and after market hours. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing market staff and volunteers, supporting vendors, engaging community partners, planning events, writing newsletters, and posting to social media. The MM is also responsible for market reporting and tracking.
Market Manager Required Hours:
Oakhurst Farmers Market- Saturdays until December 19th, 6:30am - 2:30pm
Market Managers must work a minimum of 20 hours per week year-round. MM’s will work up to 32 hours per week December through February and up to 40 hours per week March through November.
Role Overview, Compensation & Schedule
Market Manager is an hourly, full-time year-round position at $25/hr.
This position is eligible for insurance benefits and 10 days of paid time off per year.
The MM will primarily work remotely and at market, with several days per month required in-office. The Oakhurst Farmers Market shift is non-negotiable: Saturdays until December 19th, 6:30am - 2:30pm. Market Managers must work a minimum of 20 hours per week year-round. MM’s will work up to 32 hours per week December through February and up to 40 hours per week March through November. Primary market management responsibilities account for approximately 20 hours per week. Additional hours (typically 12-20 per week, depending on season) may be allocated to broader organizational work across CFM’s program areas, based on organizational needs and the Market Manager’s capacity. The MM must be able to commit to a full market season to be considered for the position.
They must be willing and able to work on a flexible schedule in a fast-paced environment, and adhere to CFM’s communication policies. This position will work closely with the Lead Market Manager to accomplish their responsibilities, and may occasionally be asked to sub with other Market Managers for personal reasons, emergencies, or travel.
Primary Responsibilities (Approx. 20 hours/week)
Farmers Market Management
Coordinate and supervise market staff, interns, volunteers, and vendors for all market dates, from set-up to take down, during the market season.
Maintain and transport materials to/from the market site to/from CFM office using the CFM Sprinter van.
Develop and coordinate all at-market programs for the following booths: community booth, kids booth, activity or special events booth.
Execute at least one at-market event annually.
Enforce rules and regulations at market, and maintain quality control over vendors’ products.
Communicate with and build relationships with customers and vendors, and resolve minor conflicts.
Marketing and Communications
Write and share regular social media posts, weekly newsletters, and other promotions.
Administrative and Reporting
Draft market map weekly to ensure optimal market flow.
Track vendor attendance and vendor fees, and complete corresponding reports on a weekly basis.
Track and evaluate market activities through weekly internal and external reports on a weekly basis.
Track SNAP/EBT sales weekly through internal and external reports on a weekly basis.
Attend regularly scheduled weekly meetings with CFM staff (currently, Tuesdays 12-2pm.)
Additional Responsibilities (12–20 hours/week, based on season and capacity)
Market Managers may contribute to broader organizational work, including:
Free Produce Markets
Outreach events throughout the community
Special communications and marketing projects
Additional administrative tasks outside of managing market
Assistance with event coordination
Vendor Support Program assistance (program creation, farm workdays, etc.)
At market shift (Assistant Manager, sub Manager, Compost Program, Cheffing, etc.)
Managing volunteer programming
Special projects (Zero Waste programming, Vendor Local Sourcing programming, etc.)
Mandatory Qualifications
Ability to drive a Sprinter van
Must hold a current driver's license.
Must possess 3+ years of professional experience
Ability to multitask and quickly adapt on the job in unconventional scenarios.
Experience resolving conflicts in a respectful manner.
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to manage time and resources effectively, prioritizing efforts according to organizational goals.
Commitment to providing access to “good food” to all people regardless of socio-economic situation.
Physical Demands
Shifts up to 7 hours long take place outdoors in all seasons and in extreme weather, including heat, cold, and rain.
Position involves lifting and moving items up to 40lb, bending, grasping, and repetitive movements.
Preferred Skills
Experience in non-profits, community organizing, nutrition, public health, farming, the local food movement, and/or project management.
Competency with G Suite, Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets.
Experience with social media management and content creation
Knowledge of food systems, sustainable agriculture, and food justice issues.
Experience developing strong, trusting, respectful relationships with others.
Experience communicating with diverse audiences.
Professional experience leveraging teams to achieve outcomes.
Compensation
