Job description
Position Summary
The Greenmarket Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the operational success of GrowNYC’s 45 Greenmarket locations across the five boroughs of New York City, including overseeing logistics, permitting, equipment, and vehicle management. This position plays a key role in ensuring that Greenmarket sites operate safely, efficiently, and effectively for customers, staff, and producers alike. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Food Access & Agriculture (FAA) - Greenmarket Operations, this position will spend time at both GrowNYC’s Greenmarket sites and at the GrowNYC office.

Greenmarket Operations & Logistics Manager Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):
Market Operations and Logistics
Oversee the logistics and day-to-day market operations for GrowNYC’s Greenmarket network of 45 farmers' markets.
Work with the Assistant Director of FAA, Greenmarket Operations, and Greenmarket Regional Managers to develop market layouts for GrowNYC Greenmarket locations and assist with implementation of market layouts, producer placement, and site logistics.
Provide Greenmarket Regional Managers and Union Square leadership team with support for at-market operations, logistics, and compliance-related matters.
Ensure consistent implementation of market layouts, compliance standards, and operational procedures, and that market operations comply with organizational policies, city regulations, and safety standards.
Maintain relationships and communicate regularly with Greenmarket site partners, city agencies, and local community stakeholders.
Secure all City permits, including Street Activity Permit Office (SAPO) and Parks Department permits for select Greenmarket locations.
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) and manage our seasonal propane variance and adherence to FDNY requirements and regulations.
Troubleshoot and address site-level issues, including parking, construction, filming, and layout changes.
Support emergency and contingency planning for weather or site disruptions
Perform administrative duties and attend in-office and virtual staff meetings.
Equipment Management and Fleet Administration
Manage the fleet of Greenmarket vehicles, with assistance from GrowNYC Fleet Administrator.
Oversee procurement, maintenance, and storage of field supplies and market equipment, including tracking the inventory of field supplies and equipment.
Coordinate with our third-party logistics company to ensure the storage and transport of market equipment at select Greenmarket locations.
Staff Management and Training
Supervise the Assistant Regional Manager, including onboarding, training, coaching, and conducting weekly one-on-one meetings.
Oversee the onboarding and on-site and virtual training (seasonal and ongoing) of the Greenmarket field staff.
Manage the creation of Greenmarket field staff training materials, including site lead and Regional Manager manuals.
Ensure that market staff have proper licenses and certifications as required by GrowNYC policy and permits granted by city agencies.
Assist GMKT managing team in coordination with HR to issue Corrective Action Notices (C.A.Ns) and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), as needed.
Required Qualifications
Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in project management and program development, preferably in an agriculture-related field.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing staff (preferably supervisory experience similar in scope to current Greenmarket field-based staffing) with a people-centered leadership style.
Excellent written and public speaking communication skills, with a desire and proven ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and knowledge levels.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced team environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence, including a willingness to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a proactive, results-driven orientation.
Dispute mediation and conflict management skills.
Ability to think strategically and creatively.
Agile with the ability to focus on meeting emergent needs and be adaptable to continuous change.
Strong commitment to a racially and socially just food system.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
Willingness to travel and work in all neighborhoods throughout the five boroughs of NYC.
Ideal Qualifications
Knowledge of sustainable local agriculture/farming, food systems, food access, and/or food justice (highly preferred).
Spanish language proficiency (preferred, not required)
Schedule
Tuesday through Saturday, with some Sundays required. Work at least one weekend day every week and some holidays.
Compensation
This full-time, exempt, and salaried role pays $85,000 - $90,000 annually, and includes benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, FSA programs, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days). This position is not union-eligible/not a part of the bargaining unit.
Location
This is a hybrid role with a minimum of three (3) days per week in our Manhattan office, with a mandatory presence on Wednesdays. In-person field-based work at Greenmarket locations is required.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $85,000.00 - $90,000.00
