Position Title: Market Garden Production Coordinator
Location: San Juan Capistrano
Position Type: This is a full-time , hourly position. The position will periodically require long
and non-regular work hours.
Compensation: $22-28/hr + benefits
Key Collaborators: Farm Production Manager, Replication Manager, Greenhouse Coordinator
The primary functions of The Ecology Center’s (TEC) Market Gardens are:
Grow beautiful, high quality, nutrient dense, Regenerative Organic Certified, produce, herbs and flowers for distribution through The Ecology Center Farm Stand, meeting the demand with the right quantity at the right time.
Demonstrate profitable, small scale regenerative farming practices that utilize efficient methods that prioritize the health of the farmers, the soil, and surrounding ecosystem
Cultivate community through volunteering, education and programming
Experiment and develop culturally appropriate and site specific fruit, vegetable and floral varieties that thrive in our bioregion
Job Summary: The Ecology Center Market Garden Production Coordinator assists the production of The Ecology Center’s Market Garden. Working closely with the Replication Manager, the MGC executes the cropping plan, prepping beds, planting, weeding, irrigating and implementing our IPM and fertility programs.
Minimum Qualifications
2-4 years of Market Garden Production experience using regenerative farming practices, including a mastery of:
Principles and practices of organic market farming production, including principles of soil health, water conservation, and integrated pest management.
Common farm equipment, including seeders, tilther, harvest equipment, BCS walk-behind tractor, and basic hand tools.
Irrigation system set-up, repair, and scheduling.
General equipment maintenance and repair
Hard Worker, ability to follow a plan and execute independently and in a timely manner
Be a team player, support your coworkers and maintain a positive, professional attitude
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and perform physical tasks associated with farm work.
Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, working weekends and evenings when needed.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Execute crop rotation plan that meet the regenerative farming goals and production needs of the Center’s Farm Hub and partnerships.
Assist the Replication Manager in developing weekly work plan
Be accountable for crop production, fertilizing and spraying record keeping
Maintain Garden fertility and crop protection program
Ensure that all Market Garden equipment, tools and supplies are maintained and kept in a pristine, organized manner
Maintain site cleanliness and the aesthetic standards of TEC Market Gardens.
