Company description
Conditional Gardens is a neighborhood farm growing mushrooms, microgreens, baby greens, herbs, and fruiting plants in controlled environments. We’re building something small, careful, and durable; food worth eating, grown by people who are treated fairly, for a community we actually live in.
We believe businesses should give more than they take. That shows up in how we grow food, how we price it, how we work with our neighbors, and how we treat each other day to day. We care about transparency, balance, and building systems that work in real life. This role is central to that.
Job description
The Role
We’re hiring a Founding Sales Lead with a desire to help build something real in local food. This role is primarily focused on building and growing our sales across chefs and local grocers, while also helping shape our direct-to-consumer efforts and broader community partnership strategy.
Chef and wholesale sales are the most immediate and relationship-driven part of what we do, and that’s where your core skillset should live. Direct-to-consumer, farm outreach, and local business partnerships are also important to the business, and you’ll work closely with the founders and farm team to help build demand, strengthen market presence, and create sales channels that fit how the farm operates.
This is a hands-on role. You’ll be doing outreach, building relationships, getting product in front of buyers, developing repeat business, helping refine the sales process, and actively helping the business grow.
Responsibilities
Sales & Account Development
- Own sales outreach and account development across our main channels, especially chefs, and specialty grocers
- Build pipeline: prospecting, outreach, meetings, tastings, follow-up, closing, onboarding, and turning first orders into standing recurring business
- Build buyer relationships and manage them well over time, not just close one-off sales
- Help shape pricing, pack sizes, and channel focus based on what the market is telling us
Direct-to-Consumer & Business Development
- Help develop direct-to-consumer channels in a way that is operationally realistic
- Develop partnerships with local farms, neighborhood businesses, pickup locations, and other aligned community partners that can support distribution, customer growth, and brand presence
Sales Operations & Market Feedback
- Work closely with the founders and farm team so sales commitments match production reality, product availability, pack sizes, lead times, and operational capacity
- Build useful sales structure early, including lead tracking, account notes, reorder visibility, and follow-up discipline
- Bring back market intel on pricing, buyer preferences, demand trends, product opportunities, lost deals, and where we are or are not resonating
- Help build a sales process that is simple, repeatable, and grounded
How We Work - We’re looking for someone entrepreneurial and high-agency.
Enjoy building systems
- Notice friction, missed opportunities, and weak follow-through and take responsibility for improving them
- Treat the sales side of the business like something you’re helping build
- This role comes with real autonomy and responsibility. You’ll be trusted to pursue the right accounts, develop useful partnerships, improve how we sell, and help shape how the business grows over time.
What We’re Looking For
We don’t care how many years you’ve been doing this. We care that you can do it well.
- You have experience selling in food, CPG, farm/direct-to-consumer, or other relationship-driven sales environment
- You are strong in person, strong in follow-through, and comfortable being the face of the company with chefs, buyers, and local partners
- You are organized to keep the pipeline moving and maintain visibility into leads, next steps, reorder patterns, and account health
- You have good judgment and can represent a young business honestly without overpromising
- You are excited by early-stage work and enjoy developing the playbook
- Familiarity with the Denver food scene is a major plus
- Experience with mushrooms, microgreens, herbs, greens, produce, or other perishable specialty food products is a strong plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary, plus commissions
- Performance-based upside tied to revenue growth, repeat business, and account quality
- Paid time off
- As economics of the business allow, benefits will increase over time, including potential future health care, profit share, 401(k) matching, and other long-term benefits
Why This Role Matters
This role exists because good product alone does not build a durable farm. We need strong customer relationships, consistent demand, and honest market feedback to make the business work well. We see this as a role with meaningful upside. The right person can grow from owning early sales into building and leading the broader sales and business development function as Conditional Gardens grows.
You’ll be a core builder here. The accounts, partnerships, and sales systems you help put in place will shape how we grow for years to come.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $75,000 - $100,000
