Company description
We are building a place-based institute on a historic 300-acre high-desert campus in central Arizona (one hour equidistant to Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Prescott), focused on regenerative agriculture, food systems, ecological stewardship, design, and immersive education.
The campus includes more than a hundred existing buildings (homes, dorms, dining hall, classrooms, etc.) and infrastructure that once supported a long-standing educational institution. We're reimagining and bringing them back to life through a new vision and operating model.
While we are in an early stage of development, building systems and programs from the ground up, we are doing so within the context of a nearly 100-year legacy of land stewardship on this property. This dual reality, a new enterprise emerging within an established physical campus and a deeply rooted history, shapes how we approach both our work and our community.
Our model integrates hands-on learning, hospitality, and land-based practice, bringing together farmers, designers, educators, and makers in a working campus and immersive retreat environment.
We are a small, dedicated team building something meaningful within an already remarkable physical setting, and we are looking for people who want to contribute to that process.
Job description
Good Ground at Orme is seeking 1-2 Apprentice Land Stewards to join our founding team in cultivating a newly activated 300-acre campus in the high desert of North Central Arizona, located between Phoenix and Sedona.
We are building a place-based institute rooted in regenerative agriculture, ecology, and education, starting (nearly) from scratch while drawing from a nearly 100-year legacy of land stewardship.
About the Land
The campus includes:
A 200-tree orchard
Permaculture garden and nursery
Greenhouse
Vineyard
Diverse ecosystems, pathways, and historic buildings woven into the landscape
We are actively developing:
A 5-acre experimental food forest
A living laboratory for desert agriculture
An ethnobotanical food and medicine hub
Field Crew Members are the heart of this work, helping to design, implement, and maintain systems that support a thriving, regenerative landscape.
The Role:
Apprentices will work closely with the Farm Manager and Agricultural Director to support a full seed-to-seed operation.
Core Responsibilities:
Seeding, transplanting, bed prep, and cultivation
Greenhouse and hoop house management
Irrigation setup, monitoring, and maintenance
Weeding, watering, and crop care
Ecological pest and disease management
Harvesting, washing, and packing produce
Medicinal herb and flower production
Composting and soil-building practices
Supporting future farm stand/market sales and community engagement
Assisting with volunteer days, tours, and events
Value-added production (tinctures, teas, ferments, preserves, etc.)
Apprentices may also support broader campus needs, including maintenance, landscaping, kitchen, and apothecary work.
Learning & Growth
This is a deeply immersive, hands-on learning experience in high desert-based regenerative agriculture.
All apprentices will:
Receive ongoing training in ecological farming systems
Work within a dynamic, real-world land-based operation
Participate in regular check-ins, feedback, and skill development
Gain exposure to systems thinking, land stewardship, and community-based agriculture
This Role Is a Fit If You…
Move with focus, urgency, and care
Value accountability (personal and collective)
Think ahead and solve problems proactively
Stay steady and solutions-oriented under pressure
Love working outdoors, no matter the weather
Can take direction, but also take initiative without constant direction
Take pride in organization, cleanliness, and follow-through
Qualifications
Experience in agriculture or related field (vegetable production a plus)
Familiarity with tools, small engines, and basic equipment
Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable
Strong communication and listening skills
Comfortable with Google Sheets or basic digital tools
Physically capable of sustained manual labor (including lifting 50 lbs repeatedly)
Able to work in all weather conditions
Self-motivated and able to work independently and on a team
Passion for food systems, ecology, and regenerative land stewardship
Note: Our location is most easily accessible by car.
Compensation
$16 - $20 hour (DOE)
Housing + utilities included
Seasonal raises available after a 90-day probationary period, based on performance and skill development
Access to farm-grown fruits and vegetables
Additional Notes
This is hands-on, physically demanding, and deeply rewarding work. Because our systems are evolving and seasonally driven, all new apprentices (regardless of experience) are considered “in training” during their first season.
We are looking for people who want to grow with the land, the systems, and the vision.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $15-20/hr
