Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time Cheesemonger-in-Training to join our Fairfield team. This entry-level role is designed for individuals who are eager to develop their skills in food retail and customer service while learning the craft of cheesemongering. No prior cheese experience is required—training will be provided. The right candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm for food, attention to detail, and a commitment to creating a positive shopping experience for every customer.

Key Responsibilities

• Learn and perform the fundamentals of cheesemongering, including proper cutting, wrapping, storing, and handling of cheese.
• Deliver excellent customer service by assisting guests with product selection and providing pairing suggestions.
• Maintain product displays, restock inventory, and ensure the shop is clean, organized, and visually appealing.
• Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Participate in staff training sessions and tastings to build product knowledge.
• Support daily shop operations, including cashiering, merchandising, cleaning, dishwashing, and preparing orders.

Qualifications

• Interest in food, specialty retail, or hospitality.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable standing for extended periods and working with knives and other food preparation tools.

Compensation

this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $18.00 - $20.00
