Position: Kitchen Manager / Culinary Educator
Type: Full time, hourly, in-person position
Pay: $24 - $28 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Teaching Locations: Santa Barbara
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and hands-on Kitchen Manager who will oversee daily kitchen operations while also serving as an engaging instructor for cooking classes. This role combines operational management with teaching, ensuring a well-stocked, efficient kitchen and an exceptional learning experience for students.
Key Responsibilities
Kitchen Operations & Inventory
- Manage kitchen inventory, including tracking, ordering, and restocking supplies and ingredients
- Conduct regular inventory audits to minimize waste and ensure availability of all necessary items
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of all kitchen spaces in compliance with health and safety standards
Procurement & Shopping
- Plan and execute grocery shopping for classes and events
- Source high-quality ingredients while managing budget and cost efficiency
- Build relationships with local vendors and suppliers when applicable
Class Preparation
- Prepare and organize all ingredients and equipment for cooking classes
- Set up workstations to ensure smooth class flow and an optimal student experience
- Anticipate class needs and troubleshoot setup issues in advance
Teaching & Instruction
- Lead or assist in teaching cooking classes for students of varying skill levels – both adults and children
- Demonstrate culinary techniques clearly and effectively
- Foster a fun, educational, and inclusive learning environment
- Ensure safety and proper kitchen practices are followed during classes
Qualifications
- Prior experience in kitchen management, culinary instruction, or a similar role
- Current Food Handler Managers Card
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed
- Requires knowledge of kitchen hygiene practices and food safety
Preferred Skills
- Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience
- Experience teaching or leading groups
- Familiarity with inventory management systems
- Work Environment

- Regular interaction with students and staff
- Requires standing for extended periods and lifting supplies
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $24.00 - $28.00
