Job description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Pastry Sous Chef to support the daily operations of our pastry kitchen. The Pastry Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Pastry Chef to create, execute, and maintain high-quality desserts, cakes, cookies, pastries, breads, and specialty items. This role requires strong technical skill, creativity, leadership ability, and a passion for consistency and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive Pastry Chef in managing all aspects of pastry production, including prep, baking, assembly, and finishing.
- Lead and supervise bakers; provide training, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Ensure all products meet established standards of quality, presentation, and consistency.
- Collaborate on seasonal menu development, recipe testing, and innovation.
- Assist with inventory, ordering, and proper storage of pastry ingredients and supplies.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
- Adhere to production schedules to ensure all PARs are met
- Step in as acting head of the pastry department in the absence of the Executive Pastry Chef.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional pastry experience in a high-volume bakery, restaurant, or hotel.
- Prior supervisory or lead role experience preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of pastry techniques, and specialty cakes.
Basic chocolate and bread experience a plus.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.
- Culinary degree or formal pastry training
- Flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
