Company description
We are a certified organic vegetable and strawberry farm located at the head of Merrymeeting Bay in midcoast Maine. Since 1960 we have stewarded this land with the help of many generations of incredible crew members. We specialize in greens, carrots, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and strawberries, and aim to provide a complete veggie menu to our customers. We sell at five farmers' markets in the summer, three in the winter, to wholesale partners throughout Portland and the midcoast, our Winter CSA, and here at our farm stand. Our crew tends to stick around for 5, 10, and even 20 years, and we offer full-time, year-round work with benefits. The family owners work alongside crew, and through organic practices and mechanization we prioritize sustainability both for the environment and our bodies.
Job description
We are now hiring to fill out harvest and field crew for the 2026 season with full-time, year-round work available to the right candidates. This is an opportunity to learn the systems and strategies that have kept a midsize diversified organic farm producing hundreds of thousands of pounds of organic food through 3 solid decades of organic stewardship.
As a Goranson Farmer, you'll be doing a bit of everything during harvest season: picking field crops, washing and packing for markets and orders, riding equipment for bulk harvest, moving row cover, and collaborating with other crew members to complete a myriad of other tasks. In the winter there is still food to pick in the high tunnels, and we shift to shorter hours and more cleaning and packing of storage crops. By February we are seeding new crops and beginning to transplant. As we get to know you and the needs of the season shift, we'll find opportunities for you to specialize and dig in to the details in areas that could range from managing specific crops, working markets, coordinating orders, equipment and infrastructure maintenance, or other projects that develop.
The ideal candidate:
- Has at least 1 year of experience working outside
- Can lift 40 lbs repeatedly
- Can work on their feet all day
- Keeps their hands moving while chatting
- Can work well with a large, diverse crew as well as independently
- Knows how to collaborate and sees the big picture to achieve daily group tasks
- Cares about good food and the environment
- Is 18 years or older
Full-time farmers receive:

- Unlimited seconds produce of everything we grow for your household

Our current crew is comprised of talented people from three different countries, diverse economic and cultural backgrounds, and ranges in age from 21 - 70. We welcome qualified applicants of all genders and backgrounds.
For experienced farmers, this is a great place to learn about:
- wash/pack workflow and food safety compliance
- Mechanization of harvest and washing
- specialty produce long storage and curing
- large crew division of labor and workflow
- Tidal irrigation systems
- Direct-market, wholesale, and CSA combination sales structure
