POSITION OVERVIEW
CitySeed is seeking a reliable and mission-driven Farm Produce Delivery Driver to support our Farm to Institution Program. This part-time position involves picking up fresh, locally grown produce from Connecticut farms every Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and delivering it directly to the CitySeed building for storage in a cold storage unit. This role is a vital link between local farmers and wholesale customers in the New Haven community.
Schedule: Every Wednesday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (8 hours), June through September
Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour
Employment Type: Part-Time Seasonal
Location: New Haven, CT and surrounding CT farm regions
Licence Type: Standard driver's license, class D, no requirement for CDL
RESPONSIBILITIES
Pick up fresh, locally grown produce and food products from Connecticut farms each Wednesday, following a pre-planned route.
Transport all collected produce back to the CitySeed building and unload directly into a cold storage unit, ensuring proper temperature-sensitive handling throughout.
Verify that all cold storage deliveries are properly organized, labeled, and stored upon arrival at the CitySeed facility.
Load and unload product safely at each farm stop, ensuring fresh produce is handled with care and maintained at appropriate temperatures during transit.
Monitor the refrigeration or temperature control system in the delivery vehicle to ensure food safety compliance.
Follow the designated farm stop sequence and adhere to all pickup time windows coordinated with farm partners.
Accurately document all pickups and deliveries, and complete required tracking paperwork.
Inspect produce for damage to ensure quality control and communicate any issues promptly to supervisor.
Perform basic pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical concerns immediately.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe vehicle interior at all times.
Represent CitySeed's mission and values professionally when interacting with farm partners and community members.
Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the electric commercial van's battery charge level, ensuring the vehicle is fully charged at the start of each shift and has sufficient charge to complete all scheduled deliveries without interruption
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid, unrestricted Connecticut Class D driver's license
Minimum 2 years of licensed driving experience
No more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years
No DUI, DWI, or reckless driving convictions within the past 5 years
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must be and remain insurable under the organization's commercial auto insurance policy
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly throughout the workday, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to load and unload a delivery van safely and efficiently
Ability to sit and drive for extended periods
Ability to work in varying weather conditions
Must be available every Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM without exception.
Strong attention to detail for accurate recordkeeping of farm pickups and deliveries.
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity with the greater New Haven area and Connecticut roadways preferred.
Experience handling perishable goods or working with cold storage is a plus.
Passion for local food systems, agriculture, and community-based organizations strongly preferred.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
