The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition is a grassroots nonprofit working to foster an equitable local food system in the San Luis Valley. This is accomplished through the Rio Grande Farm Park, a farm incubator and educational farm; the Valley Roots Food Hub, an aggregation and distribution service; Cooking Matters, a bilingual cooking and nutrition education program; and Local Foods Local Places, an initiative focused on economic development, food systems coordination, and community-based solutions.
Job description
The SLV Local Foods Coalition is seeking a Value Chain and Outreach Coordinator who will support local food procurement efforts at area school districts while helping strengthen relationships between schools, producers, and community partners. This role also supports a wide range of outreach, events, and other program projects that advance the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition’s work across the region.
Responsibilities
1. School Food Procurement and Relationship Building*
- Aid school districts in increasing local food procurement in alignment with Healthy School Meals for All
- Strengthen coordination among schools, producers, food hubs, and partners
- Serve as a liaison between school food buyers and local producers
- Support menu planning, purchasing, and forecasting
- Build strong relationships that support long-term local purchasing
- Develop knowledge of regional supply, demand, and barriers
- Help identify key resources, partners, and gaps
- Organize buyer-producer events and tastings
- Support Student/Parent Advisory Committees
- Conduct inclusive outreach across the region
*There is no expectation for you to possess every skill; training will be provided.
2. Community Outreach and Program Support
Support the Program Director with special projects such as:
- Organize and host events such as farm tours, presentations, workshops, and meetings
- Conduct data collection outreach to organizations, businesses, producers, and community members across the San Luis Valley and a bit beyond
- Represent the organization at community events, partner events, and farmers markets
3. Administration and Project Coordination
- Maintain organized records, spreadsheets, and project tracking documents
- Conduct data entry and document activities, mileage, and expenses
- Work independently and take ownership of assigned projects from start to finish
- Other related tasks as needed

- Spreadsheet proficiency required
- Strong working knowledge of Google Drive and Google
- Workspace, especially Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and shared file organization
- Systems thinking & problem-solving
- Ability to maintain accurate records and stay on top of details
- Valid driver’s license and reliable working vehicle. <meta charset="UTF-8" />This position requires use of a personal vehicle to travel to communities across the SLV for events and meetings, for which unfortunately there is no public transportation.

Work Conditions and Travel
- This position is based in Alamosa, Colorado, with office and desk provided.
- Some work will take place in the field and throughout the San Luis Valley.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Occasional travel for conferences or other work-related events will also be required.
- Working remotely or from home is possible when necessary.
- Because this role involves meaningful relationship-building and training, we hope to hire someone who is interested in growing with us and making a longer-term commitment to the position.
- A background check will be required for employees whose work includes working with youth.
Hours: 32 to 40 hours per week, depending on organizational needs and candidate availability.
Compensation and Benefits
- $22 to $26 per hour
- Twenty days of paid time off per year for personal holidays and sick leave (prorated if working less than 40 hours per week)
- Ten paid federal holidays per year
- Mileage reimbursement at $0.65 per mile for work-related travel, excluding regular commuting
- 50% employer match on employee’s health and dental insurance premiums
