Company description
Tarrytown Local is a new chef-led cafe and grocery store opening in Tarrytown, NY in early Summer 2026. Our mission is to foster holistic eating for personal, planetary, and community well-being. Every ingredient we use, produce, grains, oil, salt, and sugar, etc, is sourced intentionally from farmers and producers we know and trust.
Job description
We are looking for a Front-of-House (FOH) Manager to join our founding team.
This role will be responsible for the overall success of Market and Cafe Front of House (FOH) operations. The FOH Manager will report directly to the owners. This role has significant opportunities for growth and creative input.
The FOH Manager will oversee all FOH staff and customer service functions, ensuring the team is trained to uphold the highest standards of service across both cafe and grocery operations. In leading the team the manager will need to maintain a strong connection to both our culinary program and the local food system more broadly.
Initially, the grocery will be open from 8am-8pm, and the cafe will be open for lunch service from 9am-3pm Wednesday through Sunday. We may expand cafe service into breakfast and into dinner, but staff will not be expected to work double shifts.
The menu and grocery offerings will change day-to-day, so flexibility, curiosity, and attention to ingredients is essential.
What You’ll Do
Oversee and manage daily operations of the cafe and grocery’s service areas, ensuring seamless execution of service processes.
Set the standard for and ensure the delivery of excellent service for all guests.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization throughout service areas.
Assist in inventory management, supply ordering, and operational budgets (P&L) to ensure profitability and efficiency.
Lead FOH staff recruitment, training, and scheduling, fostering a highly motivated and mission-aligned team.
Assist in checking out grocery customers and responding to customer questions in an engaging manner, as needed.
Serve as a key leader in embodying and communicating our mission, ensuring all team members are experts on our intentionally sourced ingredients and products.
Develop and implement efficient Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all FOH operations.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a seasoned leader with management experience in hospitality, combined with a strong passion for our mission.
The right person for this role is:
Highly organized and detail-oriented.
Passionate about ingredients and good sourcing.
Calm and focused during service and under pressure.
Creative and excited to contribute ideas.
Curious and eager to keep learning.
Respectful, reliable, and punctual.
We’re especially excited to hear from applicants who are:
From the fine-dining industry looking for a different environment.
Experienced in multi-faceted retail and food service management (e.g., cafe and market operations).
Proven leaders in building and mentoring high-performing teams.
People who are excited about the future of food systems.
Food and ingredient enthusiasts and “nerds” (intended in the best way possible, we here at TL are nerds).
The Food
Our menu will feature accessible, familiar food done in a new way, built around great ingredients from local farms and producers. The ingredients we use in the kitchen are the same ingredients we sell in the grocery store.
Think:
Sandwiches, salads, and soups built around peak-season produce
Market-driven daily specials
Creative small plates and prepared foods
Scratch-made grocery items
Frozen foods and pantry items made in-house with the same care as cafe dishes
Why Tarrytown Local Is Different
Every ingredient is vetted intensively and sourced intentionally
Direct relationships with farms and producers
A small, highly aligned founding team
Creative input is encouraged
Opportunities to develop new ideas, techniques, and products
A strong commitment to healthy work-life balance
Intense focus on quality, but directed at approachable, relaxed fare.
We want staff who are excited to bring their own ideas to the table. Team members are encouraged to pursue their interests and develop projects within the Tarrytown Local ecosystem.
Compensation & Schedule
Competitive Salary (commensurate with experience) + performance based/profit-share bonuses.
Expected Commitment:
Full-Time
Typical schedule may look like:
Wednesday-Sunday 8am-4pm; 12pm-8pm - early and late shifts may be necessary for opening, closing shifts.
General oversight of all operating hours, requiring flexibility for business needs, with a focus on managerial presence during peak times and an expected five-day work week.
Projected Start Date: June 2026
