Market Manager Job Description
The Market Manager’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Fostering a welcoming and collaborative staff culture
- Managing the market staff on a daily basis including communicating priorities, delegating tasks, and making sure they are being performed efficiently and well
- Giving feedback on job performance on a regular basis
- Creating and implementing systems of accountability in collaboration with the leadership team
- Communicating and strategizing with the market, kitchen and leadership teams on setting revenue goals, customer satisfaction, merchandising, staff culture, etc.
- Creating and/or adjusting systems to foster speed and efficiency
- When new systems are implemented, ensuring that all market team members receive training on the new system
- Training new market staff on daily operations, including checking out customers, receiving deliveries, stocking and organizing, opening and closing procedures, preparing beverages, and other areas as necessary
- Training staff on maintaining a clean and food safe environment
- Checking in frequently with the market team to ensure they have the support that they need
- Troubleshooting issues as they arise and calling in other team members as needed
- Curating music
- Regularly checking inventory accuracy
- Ensuring that deliveries are properly put away
- Ensuring that items are being pulled as they come to date
- Implementing and maintaining effective displays and communicating with market staff on how to do this well
- Coordinating product samples and promotions
- Overseeing the organization and cleanliness of the market- including supplies, equipment and inventory upstairs and downstairs
- Participating in an on call schedule and covering shifts when there are call-outs
- Participating in goal-setting and keeping staff focused on meeting goals
- Managing Food Access Fund
- Monitoring Producer Email Inbox
- Receiving new product inquiries and communicating with leadership team about whether we want to carry them
- Work with owners on planning rhythm and topics for staff meetings for the year
- Placing wholesale orders
Terms of Employment
- Hourly rate of $21.00
- Tipped Position with tips averaging an additional $4-$6 per hour
- Full time position with an average of 40 hours per week
- Covering call-outs when needed
- Availability to work some morning and some afternoon/evening shifts
- Includes at least one weekend day and must be available holidays
- Being an on-call manager on certain days of the week
- 2 weeks paid vacation
- 1 week paid sick leave
- Ensure that staff are well prepared for manager absences
- Long term commitment of at least one year, ideally three years
- At least two months notice for ending employment or any major changes to the employment agreement
- Work to meet annual cafe gross sales goals
- Signed employment agreement including: conflict of interest, non-compete, confidential information and non-solicitation clauses
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $20/hr +
