Job description
Position: Catering Culinary Prep Cook
Event Locations: Berkeley + East Bay
Schedule: Part-time, varies. 2-4 days per week, weekdays and occasional weekends
Commercial Kitchen Location: North Berkeley
Employment Status: W2 team member, non-benefited
Pay: $22-26, depending on experience
Anticipated start date: Summer/Fall
The Table Catering is a boutique East Bay micro-business dedicated to sustainability and the community. We are committed to providing locally sourced, wholesome meals that benefit the health of our customers and the planet.
Our specialty lies in creating sophisticated, vegetable-forward buffets for social and mission-oriented events of 50 to 300 attendees throughout the East Bay. Our menus highlight local, sustainable ingredients, focusing on pre-industrial foods free from refined sugars and flours. We are currently seeking part-time team members who share our values and possess a passion for exceptional service and healthy cuisine.
This role is perfect for someone with culinary back-of-house (BOH) experience who is enthusiastic about large-batch cooking and is also willing to support front-of-house (FOH) hospitality needs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Kitchen: Large batch culinary prep and execution in the commercial kitchen under the direction of the Executive Chef
- Comfortable breaking down cases of produce and standing for 5-8 hour culinary shifts, ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Experience and/or interest cooking a regularly changing menu with efficiency and a sense of urgency
- Excellent understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, professionalism, good communication, and patience
- Contribute to packing and loading out supplies and food
- Team player who can contribute to general kitchen cleaning and maintenance of our commercial dish machine
- Keeping a tidy workspace and assisting with sweeping, mopping, and deep cleaning tasks regularly
- Work in a team to set up, service, and clean up plated meals, buffets, and/or receptions
- Remain composed and professional in fast-paced environments

- Physically capable of standing for 5-8 hour shifts and lifting up to 50 lbs.

- Resident of the East Bay with vehicle transportation to our North Berkeley kitchen and various local venues (occasional use of personal vehicle required).
Qualifications:
- Be passionate about local food and sustainability
Preferred 1-4 years culinary, customer service, restaurants, catering, or related space
- Work quickly, cleanly, and efficiently with a sense of purpose
- Ability to follow directions and food safety protocol
- Team player—respectful, professional, easy-going, coachable, and quick to learn
- Food Handlers certification, ok to gain certification after employment
