Duties and Responsibilities
Rock Cobble Farm is seeking a Seasonal Vegetable Grower to support crop production.
The Seasonal Vegetable Grower is a supporting role on the production team, working under the direction of the Production Supervisor and alongside the Farmstand Assistant & Vegetable Grower. The position supports vegetable production in the gardens and greenhouse throughout the growing season and assists with weekly Farmstand operations on Saturdays as required.
Vegetable Production & Crop Maintenance
Planting and maintaining vegetable crops through trellising, cultivating, mulching, and pruning
Harvesting crops at their peak ripeness and readiness for restaurants and the Farmstand
Working closely with the Production Supervisor on weighing harvested items for distribution
Scouting for pests and applying organic treatments as needed
Ensuring plants are accurately labeled
Supporting succession planting under the direction of the Production Supervisor
Assisting with tea harvesting and production tasks as needed
Keeping all work areas clean and ensuring tools are properly stored at the end of each workday
Loading harvested produce and transporting it to the Farmstand.
Speaking with customers about produce, plants, flowers, and other Farmstand offerings, answering questions, and maintaining a warm, welcoming presence on the floor
Assisting with breakdown at the end of the day, cleaning the area, and returning unsold produce and inventory to the barn and walk in cooler
Qualifications
Prior experience in vegetable production, commercial gardening, or greenhouse operations preferred
Working knowledge of basic organic growing practices is a plus
Comfort interacting with customers in a retail setting
Reliable, punctual, and able to follow direction from the Production Supervisor and Farmstand Assistant & Vegetable Grower
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and willingness to learn
Available Tuesday through Saturday during the season, including all Saturday Farmstand dates from late June through October
Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
Valid driver’s license to fulfill job duties
Physical Requirements
This position involves frequent physical activity, time outdoors, and exposure to seasonal weather. The candidate must be able to perform the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:
Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day
Stand, walk, and remain on foot for extended periods
Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity
Operate hand tools and basic horticultural equipment safely
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $16.35 - 20/hr
