Company description
Grandad's Farm Stop is Wisconsin's first Farm Ftop, a year-round indoor market and cafe where 100% of our products come directly from Wisconsin farmers and makers. We operate on a consignment model that returns 70% of every sale directly to the people who grew, raised, produced, or cooked the food. Think the best parts of a farmers market combined with the convenience of a grocery store, open every day, all year long. Our full-service cafe serves locally roasted coffee and small-batch pastries from the best local bakeries. We are opening in Madison in August 2026 and are building a team that genuinely believes in the power of local food to strengthen communities and support the farmers who feed us.
Job description
The Role
This is the number-two position at Grandad's Farm Stop, reporting directly to owner and founder Patrick Randolph. You will be the operational leader of the store, with primary ownership of the café and shared responsibility for the market floor. This is a hands-on, floor-present role. You will open and close (not everyday), make drinks, train baristas, receive deliveries from local farmers, and do whatever the day requires alongside your team. We are a lean operation and everyone contributes at every level. There is room to evolve the role or make it your own after a successful launch.
Position Details
Compensation: $45,000-$50,000 annually, salaried, depending on experience Hours: 40-50 hours per week including weekend availability (required) Benefits: $300/month health reimbursement, 3 weeks PTO, 20% store discount, free coffee Location: 3802 Mineral Point Rd, Madison, WI Start: As soon as possible. Pre-launch paid hourly, transitioning to full-time salaried at opening.
Key Responsibilities
You will own day-to-day café operations including quality, training, inventory, equipment, and menu development. On the market floor you will support vendor deliveries, product rotation, restocking, and signage. You will directly supervise a small team of full-time and part-time employees, participating in hiring, onboarding, and training alongside the owner. You will set and model the standard for customer service, field questions about our farmers and sourcing, and serve as a community face of Grandad's. You will own opening and closing procedures, monitor operational costs, and contribute to store planning conversations. This role has real input into how Grandad's grows.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who can lead with both heart and hustle. Local food is not a side note at Grandad's. It is the whole point, and the right person for this role will feel that in their bones. If you have real café experience, know how to bring out the best in a team, and wake up genuinely excited about what a thriving local food economy can do for a community, we want to talk. The right person for this role has extensive hands-on café or coffee shop experience including espresso and high-volume service (this is a hard requirement), has led or managed a team before, has a deep and genuine commitment to local food and the farmers who make it possible, communicates directly and navigates conflict without drama, thrives in a startup environment where systems are still being built, and is excited by the ground-floor opportunity, not intimidated by it. Weekend availability is non-negotiable.
