Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced landscaper to join our team. This role offers the unique opportunity to work across both estate-quality grounds and active farm operations while contributing to the long-term stewardship of a historic property.
Please note: This is a non-residential (live-out) position.
Role Breakdown
• Growing season - 75% Landscaping & Groundskeeping: Maintaining the historic estate and farm landscape, gardens, ornamental and functional plantings, infrastructure, and surrounding grounds.
• Growing season - 25% Animal Husbandry Support: Assisting the team with livestock operations and care.
• Winter – 50% Livestock 50% Grounds
Key Responsibilities
Landscaping & Grounds Care
• Maintain large-scale estate and farm grounds, including mowing, trimming, seasonal landscape maintenance, and overall property upkeep.
• Maintain and help develop ornamental and functional landscapes, including trees, shrubs, perennial gardens, seasonal plantings, and pollinator areas, with responsibilities that may include planting, transplanting, pruning, and contributing to the selection and placement of trees, shrubs, and other landscape plantings.
.• Support sustainable, regenerative and eco-friendly land management practices across the property.
• Assist with snow removal, fence building, and general property maintenance.
• Coordinate with outside landscaping, tree service, and property service vendors as needed to support seasonal projects and specialized work, helping ensure all work aligns with the farm’s operational standards, land stewardship practices, and property needs.
Small Machinery Operation
• Safely operate landscaping and farm equipment, including mowers, trimmers, utility vehicles, compact tractors, and other small machinery.
• Perform light chainsaw and basic tree maintenance work as needed.
Please note: This role does not involve ladder-based or elevated tree work.
Animal Husbandry
• When needed - assist with care, handling, and movement of livestock (cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, and chickens).
Candidate Requirements
• Experience: Proven experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or property stewardship required. Experience with sustainable land management, horticulture, farming, or estate properties is strongly preferred.
• Work Style: Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain high standards of presentation and property care.
• Animal Comfort: Basic animal experience is preferred; must be comfortable working closely with large and small livestock.
• Licensing & Background: Valid driver’s license; clean criminal background check (required because this role will be working near private family residences).
• Legal: Valid US work permit and fluency in English.
• Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work comfortably outdoors in all weather conditions. Experience operating landscaping equipment and vehicles.
• Mindset: Positive, dependable team player with a strong work ethic and a genuine interest in long-term land stewardship and collaborative farm operations.
Compensation & Benefits
• Starting salary $65-75K depending on experience and qualifications.
• Full benefits package including health, dental, disability, and other benefits, available after a successful 3-month trial period.
• Paid time off and holidays.
