Vegan Chula is an Oakland-based vegan catering company and pop up specializing in Mexican-inspired comfort food made entirely from scratch. Founded in 2021 by chef and Le Cordon Bleu San Francisco graduate Danielle Crespo, Vegan Chula focuses on creating vibrant, community-centered food experiences rooted in sustainability, hospitality, and bold flavor.
Our menus highlight plant-based takes on comfort food classics while emphasizing scratch-made cooking, thoughtful sourcing, and seasonal ingredients whenever possible. As a small independent food business, we value creativity, collaboration, cleanliness, and creating a positive kitchen environment where team members can gain meaningful hands-on experience in both commissary kitchen prep and live food truck service.
Over the past few years, Vegan Chula has catered weddings, museums, pop-ups, private events, and community gatherings throughout the Bay Area and is currently expanding into seasonal food truck service for the upcoming Oakland Ballers baseball season.
Job description
Vegan Chula is seeking one reliable and motivated Prep / Line Cook to join our team for the upcoming Oakland Ballers baseball season. This is a part-time seasonal position that includes commissary kitchen prep shifts and live food truck service throughout Summer 2026.
This role is ideal for a culinary student, recent graduate, or experienced cook looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced food truck environment while working closely alongside a small Oakland-based food business. The ideal candidate already has a solid kitchen foundation, works CLEAN and efficiently, and is excited to be part of a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities:
• Ingredient prep and station setup
• Following and executing recipes consistently
• Assisting with live food truck service during game days
• Maintaining a clean and organized station throughout shifts
• Supporting breakdown and dishes after service
• Working efficiently during busy service periods
Schedule:
• Prep shifts begin early June (2–3 shifts/week)
• Game Day Service Dates:
6/26–6/28 (Fri–Sun)
7/7–7/12 (Tues–Sun)
7/31–8/2 (Fri–Sun)
Locations:
• Prep Kitchen located in Uptown Oakland
• Service shifts located at Raimondi Park in West Oakland
Compensation:
• Prep Shifts: $18/hour
• Service Days: $20/hour
Qualifications:
• Strong knife skills
• Comfortable on both prep + line
• Ability to easily follow and execute recipes
• CLEAN, organized, and detail-oriented
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Must be able to reliably commute to both Uptown Oakland and West Oakland work locations
• Punctual and dependable
• Must be able to lift 25–50 lbs
Food truck and/or high-volume kitchen experience is a plus, but not required.
Compensation
this position is: hourly, $16.50 - 20/hr
