JOB DESCRIPTION
At Chatham Real Food Market Co-op, we are known for our Organic Produce Department.We are looking for someone who has knowledge of organic produce, passion around food system issues, and a leadership style that is based on team building, teaching, supporting, and role-modeling.
Purchasing
Purchase produce following guidelines of a marketing plan, (e.g., priority for local, organic)
Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery
Evaluate suppliers and investigate new products
Receive produce deliveries and follow receiving best practices
Review invoices for accuracy; request and track receipt of credits from suppliers
Merchandising
Order produce and maintain inventory control to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and maximize sales and turnover
Plan attractive produce displays
Ensure displays are replenished, rotated, culled daily
Set quality standards for stocking and culling
Manage back stock and storage areas to ensure freshness and proper rotation
Select items for specials; mark down items as needed to reduce losses
Provide clear, attractive, consistent signage in coordination with the General Manager
Ensure proper disposal of past date/poor quality product
Participate in all inventory counts
Store Safety
Maintain produce display, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting Health Department standards
Ensure all work and retail areas meet established safety standards
Maintain department equipment in working order; correct or report problems to the General Manager or Facility Manager
Customer Service
Treat people fairly, courteously, and with respect so that they are given a reason to return
Offer samples and suggestions for purchase
Report customer suggestions at management meeting
Make sure all staff are greeting shoppers
Accurately and completely record special orders and ensure the forms are delivered for processing
Personnel
Ensure on-the-job training for department staff
Follow performance standards and manage department staff accordingly
Financial Performance
Strategize to reach sales and margin goals based on the operational budget for the department
Other Duties
Attend management or other meetings if scheduled and as directed
Ensure, in coordination with the General Manager, that all areas meet lawful standards for food handling safety
Perform other tasks as assigned
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $20.00 - $23.00
