Company description
Minifactory (cafe & grocery) homes V Smiley Preserves (honey sweetened jam company) in downtown Bristol, Vermont. This hybrid restaurant, grocery and production model hums with daily activity.
The dining room is non-traditional, offering different services on weekends vs. weekday and welcoming a mix of daily regulars and folks traveling to Minifactory as a destination where guests enjoy comforting and surprising food, peruse the jam shelves and shop our neighbors on the block from vintage furniture, candle makers, to old school pizza and a book shop that sells guitars and art supplies.
The small, but fabulous town of Bristol Vermont is located in Addison County. The area is agricultural and adjacent to the mountain communities of Lincoln and Starksboro. We are a 40 minute drive to Burlington, 25 minutes to Middlebury.
Job description
On Saturdays & Sundays at Minifactory we serve a range of folks from regulars popping in for cardamom buns and coffee to large groups celebrating milestones at the big community table. People take food to go, pick up picnic supplies, hold meetings, meet friends and more. The host directs foot traffic, welcoming guests, pointing them in the right direction and taking care of the dining room on the busy weekends. This front facing and dynamic role requires confidence, warmth, leadership, quickness and a zest for multi-tasking.
A strong interest in food and drink provides an enormous boost to your work as you point out new dishes, share where ingredients are coming from and how the food is presented while being able to work with customers around food preferences, sensitives and allergies.
On weekdays, when we run our most casual service, you make coffee, ring up groceries, run food, blend tea, restock drinks and get caught up from the busy weekends.
Dishwashing is performed as a restaurant-wide team where all folks take turns through this station.
Staff tend to work a mix of opening and closing shifts to maintain equanimity.
Daytime shifts. 14-24 hours/week. Saturday & Sunday availability required. Must be able to move quickly and lift up to 35# regularly. 2-5 shifts per week depending on how many hours you seek.
Minifactory offers additional paid time off, up to 2 weeks to start and 3 weeks after 2 years with the company. Minifactory also offers a weekly CSA (veg, meat, eggs) share from Footprint Farm and Addison County Relocalization Network. We take breaks in September and January to provide rest and a reset for both the space and ourselves.
