Job Overview
The Head of Bakery Operations is responsible for the overall success of our bakery operations, ensuring exceptional product quality, operational efficiency, food safety compliance, inventory management, and team performance.
This role serves as the senior operational leader responsible for production, purchasing, inventory, fulfillment coordination, facilities oversight, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who enjoys being on the bakery floor while also improving systems, developing people, and building operational capacity for future growth.
Production & Operations Leadership
Lead all bakery production and operational activities
Manage daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules
Ensure products are produced accurately, consistently, and on time
Monitor operational performance and implement continuous improvements
Maintain operational standards that support quality, efficiency, and scalability
Team Leadership
Recruit, train, coach, and develop production team members
Manage supervisors and department leads
Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
Build a positive, accountable, and high-performing team culture
Maintain appropriate staffing levels to support business needs
Quality, Food Safety & Facilities
Establish and maintain product quality standards
Ensure consistency across all products and production processes
Lead quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions
Maintain compliance with FDA, Department of Agriculture, OSHA, and food safety requirements
Oversee facility organization, maintenance, and inspection readiness
Inventory, Purchasing & Systems
Manage purchasing of ingredients, packaging, and production supplies
Maintain inventory accuracy and appropriate stock levels
Monitor food costs and vendor performance
Support forecasting and inventory planning efforts
Utilize ERP and production management systems to improve operational performance
Operational Growth
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, and scalability
Support long-term production planning and capacity management
Partner with Ownership and Leadership on operational improvements
Help develop systems, processes, and infrastructure that support continued growth
What We're Looking For
Required
5+ years of leadership experience in bakery production, food manufacturing, commissary operations, or a related food production environment
Experience managing supervisors and production teams
Strong understanding of food safety, quality assurance, production planning, purchasing, and inventory management
Proven ability to manage labor costs, productivity, and operational performance
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends when required
Preferred
Experience scaling food production operations in a growing company
Experience with ERP, inventory, and production management systems
Experience implementing operational improvements and SOPs
Experience in specialty food, bakery, or artisan manufacturing environments
Experience with equipment planning, workflow design, or capacity improvements
Pay: From $78,000.00 per year
