We host retreats for 10-25 retreatants each weekend throughout the year (as well as hosting a constant stream of personal retreatants) and seek a chef to partner with our head chef, stepping in weekly when he is away from the Center on his days off and vacations.

Job description
We seek a passionate and energetic Chef (Vegetarian) to to partner with our Head Chef, stepping in approximately 15 hours a week when he is away from the Center on his days off and vacations. You may also work alongside him during a few particularly large retreats. This role offers an exciting opportunity to craft delicious, innovative vegetarian and vegan dishes that uphold our five-star standards. This position is ideal for someone with culinary expertise who enjoys autonomy and a peaceful working atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of vegetarian dishes for 15-40 people with attention to flavor, presentation, and quality standards
- Plan menus, using existing menus as guide
Accommodate retreatants who are vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and have other dietary restrictions
- Complete food ordering/shopping for all meals, minimizing waste and optimizing stock levels
- Supervise food preparation by volunteer staff, ensuring all food handling procedures meet health regulations and safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, equipment, and storage areas
Requirements
- Proven culinary experience within a restaurant or catering setting, preferably with a focus on vegetarian cuisine
- Hands-on experience with menu planning, nutrition, and dietary accommodations
- Knowledge of inventory management, food safety protocols, and kitchen operations
- Previous supervisory experience in a kitchen environment preferred
- Occasional weekend availability required (2+ month's notice provided)
- Our location is only accessible by car
Hours:
60+ hours per month, primarily weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday
Compensation:
$25+/hour, based on experience
