Job description
PRIVATE CHEF - BAHAMAS
Live-In | Seasonal (October–April) | $60,000 + Bonus
A private household on a gated residential estate in the Bahamas is seeking a talented, self-directed, and highly organized Private Chef for a seasonal engagement. This is an exceptional opportunity for a chef who takes genuine pride in executing consistent, high-quality everyday cooking and thrives working independently within a respectful, well-resourced household environment.
The principal is an entrepreneur who works from home and relies on excellent food to stay focused and productive. The culinary mandate here is precision home cooking, not fine dining, well-executed meals delivered reliably and on time, with ownership of sourcing, inventory, and kitchen upkeep. The ideal candidate brings classical technique, genuine range across proteins and baking, and a mature presence that allows the household to run without friction.
Responsibilities
Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily for a household of 3-4 people, scaling seamlessly for events with 20+ attendees
Deliver all meals on schedule and adapt without disruption to last-minute changes in the household's routine or travel plans
Execute clean, ingredient-driven healthy cooking: confident work across a wide range of proteins, including beef, lamb, and diverse fresh fish, as well as vegetables and grains
Produce scratch-made desserts, baked goods, fresh bread using genuine technique
Submit a proposed weekly menu each Friday for the following week to support purchasing, household planning, and coordination with the property manager
Manage all sourcing, ordering, and inventory across two professional kitchens, maintaining tight control to eliminate waste, redundant purchasing, and supply gaps
Maintain both kitchens to an impeccable standard of cleanliness and organization at all times
Partner with the household's event planner on menus, timing, and service for private gatherings and dinners throughout the season
Lead additional kitchen staff as needed for larger events or extended family stays
Travel occasionally with the principal to neighboring islands to cook on-site; flexibility for periodic island travel is expected
Collaborate professionally and discreetly with all household staff and vendors at all times
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Private Chef within a private home, estate, villa, or yacht setting strongly preferred
Formally trained or equivalent, strong classical technique including sauces, pastry fundamentals, and confident work across a wide protein range (lamb, steak, and varied fish are non-negotiable)
Genuine baking and pastry ability; comfortable producing bread and desserts entirely from scratch
Demonstrated track record of running a kitchen independently: ordering, inventory management, and cleanliness without constant oversight
Warm and adaptable demeanor; a collaborative team member who exercises discretion and operates without drama
Willing to relocate to the Bahamas and commit to the full season, from October through April
Valid passport required; food safety certification a plus
Employment is contingent upon a clear background check and verification of professional employer references
Schedule
Approx 5 days per week, hours would be roughly 8:00 AM-6:00 PM
Schedule may shift based on the principal's travel, household activity, and entertaining needs
Season runs October through April; with an onboarding period of 2-3 weeks
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: $60,000 for the season, plus a performance-based bonus
Housing: Private room provided in on-site staff cottage
Meals: Chef eats from meals prepared for the household
Relocation support provided
Additional benefits to be discussed during the interview process
Compensation
this position is: salaried, $50,000 - $75,000
