Job description
Culinary Artistas is looking for passionate, reliable individuals to join our Apprenticeship Program and teach after-school cooking classes to kids across San Francisco. Whether you're a former food industry pro, a self-taught cook, or an aspiring educator—this is a paid opportunity to grow your skills and inspire the next generation of chefs.
You’ll lead engaging, hands-on lessons for kids and teens (ages 3–17), focusing on food prep, kitchen safety, nutrition, and creativity. Classes run weekdays between 2:00–6:00 PM; each is 1–2 hours long with 30 minutes for setup and cleanup. We ask for a minimum of 2 days/week for the entire school year, with the option to teach up to 5.

What You’ll Get

What You’ll Do
- Teach fun, safe, and engaging after-school cooking classes at schools across San Francisco for kids age 3-14
- Follow our “intuitive cooking” approach to guide students through food prep, kitchen safety, and healthy eating
- Lead interactive lessons using hands-on, visual, and auditory techniques to keep kids actively engaged
- Implement age-appropriate (ages 3-14) technique and safety with patience, warmth, and clear instruction
- Foster creativity, teamwork, and confidence in the kitchen through age-appropriate skills and activities
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, and clean kitchen classroom where all kids feel valued
- Facilitate thoughtful discussions that help students connect what they learn in class to their lives at home
- Set up and clean up each class session (30 minutes on each side)
- Deliver a positive, holistic, and memorable experience every time—showing up with reliability, enthusiasm, and care
- Occasionally support field trips, day camps, or weekend events (optional)
- Possibly assist with adult cooking classes or kids' birthday parties (optional, evenings/weekends)
What We’re Looking For
- Passion for food and a love for teaching kid
- We welcome self taught cooks, educators in other disciplines, teachers, college education majors, and those who are excited to enter the culinary space
- Experience with kids or kitchens is a plus, but not required—we value attitude over credentials
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Dependable, proactive, and team-oriented
Comfortable working with ages 3–14
- Familiar with Google Docs, Slides, Chat, and Drive
- Able to travel around SF for weekly teaching
- Must be vaccinated + boosted for COVID-19 and complete a
- Live Scan background check (we’ll reimburse you)
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is a plus
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Time Commitment
- Training: typically Thursdays, 3:30–5:30 PM (Aug–Sept)
- Program: Runs Sept 2025 – June 2026 (aligned with the school year)
- Weekly Hours: 2.5–15 hours/week depending on availability; shifts are typically weekdays between 2:00pm-6:00pm
- Must commit to the full school year. Time off follows school closures.
- Opportunity to be promoted to part-time a Culinary Educator role upon graduation
Compensation
this position is: hourly, varies DOE, $24.00 - $26.00
