Job description
The Turner Farm Livestock Program Assistant will attend to the diverse livestock at Turner Farm, a regenerative, pasture-based operation. This is a full time, permanent position with a primary schedule of Monday - Friday. Occasional weekend and holiday shifts will be required based on operational and livestock needs.
Current livestock under our care:
-Red Devon Cattle
-Katahdin Sheep
-Laying Hens
-Hogs (Seasonal)
-Meat birds (Seasonal)
-Any additional livestock enterprises that might be added to the farm operation over time.
Organizational Relationship:
The Livestock Assistant will report to the Livestock Program Manager and will work with the other Livestock Program Assistants as well as any Livestock Program Interns.
Job Duties:
The Livestock Assistant will be part of the team responsible for the day-to-day husbandry activities required to keep all the livestock on Turner Farm healthy and productive. These include but are not limited to:
-Feeding, watering, and administering any medicines prescribed at the direction of the Livestock Program Manager.
-Rotating animals as needed across various pastures and paddocks using a combination of electrified net fencing, and multi strand poly wire fences.
-Cleaning and repairing stalls and any other areas occupied by livestock.
-Assisting in arranging for the humane transporting of livestock (valid driver's license required).
-Ability to come in during emergency cases (animals escape their pen, etc.)
-Assisting with mowing fields, seeding pastures, building fence, and other various pasture projects.
-Collect, and inspect eggs for washing and packing in cartons.

Qualifications:
-Previous experience in livestock or other large animal related fields
-Interest and basic knowledge of farming, biology, and livestock animals
-Strength and flexibility - ability to lift heavy objects/animals safely.
-Prior experience with agricultural equipment and large machinery operations is preferred.
-Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
In depth training on soil health, management-intensive grazing, holistic planned grazing, and other regenerative practices will be offered in house and utilized.
Compensation
this position is: salaried, varies DOE, $40,000.00 - $55,000.00
