Job description

We are a small, tight-knit farm crew. Every employee is a valued and respected member of the team, and every effort is made to allow your individual strengths to shine.

We are currently seeking a taproom bartender to work Thursdays and Sundays. We are also seeking a barback for Fridays and Saturdays, and are happy to combine the two positions.

The ideal candidate is a professional, high-energy bartender who is excited to serve our low intervention natural ciders and wines, other NY-made beer, wine and cider, and a limited cocktail menu to our customers. The bartender will greet customers, learn about their preferences, answer questions, recommend menu items, and prepare and serve beverages. You will also assist in creating new cocktail recipes, maintaining the bottle shop, and handling basic cleaning duties.

To succeed as a bartender, you should be efficient, observant, and able to communicate fluently about natural wine making and fermentation. We are happy to educate strong candidates on our own philosophy and methods.

This is a year-round position but our peak season is from June through October when we are picking fruit. Being comfortable with the occasional long shift in a high-volume environment during special events and in pick-your-own season is a must.

Responsibilities

• Welcoming customers, using guiding questions to determine beverage preferences, making recommendations, and taking and fulfilling drink orders.
• Educating customers about new beverages and specials.
• Checking ID when appropriate to ensure customers are of legal age to purchase alcohol.
• Taking inventory and alerting management of shortages to ensure bar is well-stocked.
• Adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
• Handling cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring charges are accurate and returning correct change to patrons, balancing the cash register.
• Maintaining a clean work and dining area by removing trash, cleaning tables, maintaining restrooms, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.
• Developing new cocktail recipes.
• Re-stocking bottle shop and snack shelves.

Required Experience and Qualifications

• 1-3 years bartending experience.
• Possess an understanding of the need to work quickly and maintain efficiency throughout the day.
• Willingness to work independently and as part of a larger team.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong task and time management abilities.
• Eye for detail and understanding of drink mixing tools and techniques.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, etc for extended periods, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Compensation

• $17/hr plus tips, with room for growth as capabilities and teamwork are demonstrated.
