The communications coordinator will own the day-to-day execution of social media accounts; they will help turn campaigns, events, and stories into social-first content that feels timely, relevant, and aligned to Quivira’s voice and positioning.
They will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing communication strategies for most of Quivira’s external events; this includes working with the Education & Outreach team to assess the communication needs for the events, creating creative content, and providing communications support up until the event and for post-event needs.
As part of the Communications team, this coordinator will provide general support to that team, including writing, creating visual content, website editing, and some video work.
In support of the Education & Outreach team, this coordinator will attend outreach events throughout the Southwest, representing Quivira, provide support for Quivira workshops, including overnight camping spring and fall workshops at Red Canyon Reserve near Magdalena, NM. The coordinator may also provide limited general support to the education team.
We anticipate that this position will be about 90% computer-based and will include about 10% travel for workshops and outreach events.
Communications duties (60%)
- Manage Quivira’s social media accounts, develop content, track engagement, and create strategies to improve external awareness of Quivira’s work
- Manage most event communications from start to finish
- Draft written content, including for Quivira’s newsletters, one-pagers, webpage content, external reports, among others
- Create visual content such as infographics, flyers, and short videos using design platforms such as Canva, among others
- Create content for Quivira’s website, support in editing and maintenance of the site
- Support in drafting responses to external inquiries from Quivira’s official email account.
- Help team with video uploading and optimizing
- Provide support for annual conference communications needs
- Help team with digital asset organization
Education & outreach duties (40%)
- Attend selected external events such as conferences, resource fairs, and other related events to represent Quivira to ranchers, farmers, partner organizations, and the general public, and share information about Quivira’s programs and resources
- Support in-person workshops, including spring and fall overnight workshops near Magdalena, NM

Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or similar degree; or equivalent work experience in similar roles
2+ years of communications/marketing experience highly preferred
- Experience coordinating social media platforms and developing graphic content.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to create communications for a wide variety of audiences and connect in person with people from different backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and storytelling abilities.
- Ability to understand and publish the voice of the organization
- Demonstrated skills to work independently within a remote team environment, prioritize, and meet demands in a timely manner, while also working on multiple deadlines.
- Openness to public speaking and sharing information about Quivira at public events
- Flexible schedule to accommodate some weekend work
- Ability to travel to remote locations where camping may be required
- Ability to work long hours bending, lifting, and walking outdoors
Desired qualifications
- Familiarity with regenerative agricultural practices and soil health principles
- An understanding of how conservation and agriculture have historically and currently impacted Hispanic, Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color
- Event planning and management experience
- Graphic design skills and experience
- Photography experience
- Experience with Wordpress and Elementor Wordpress builder
- Experience with Google Suite
- Multilingual in Spanish or Native languages

- Full-time, 36 hours a week, salaried
- Salary range for coordinator level positions: $46,332 - $53,000 depending on experience, paid bi-weekly. Quivira uses a wage scale to determine pay rates and ranges for all positions within the organization.
- This position is primarily remote, but based in NM
- Many employees currently work from home with access to the office on an as-needed basis. Candidates must be able to drive to outreach events and the Santa Fe office for event supplies and preparation.
- No relocation compensation
- After two months, benefits include health, dental, vision, simple IRA, paid time off, short- and long-term life disability insurance, and continuing education benefit.
